North East Phoenix stuff

Hello ladies

Our family (myself, DH, ds1 1- 7 years old, ds2- 3 years old, dd- 1 year old, the dog and 3 cats) are new to Arizona.  Like many others, we moved for DH's job.    We chose the Paradise Valley Unified School District and Boulder Creek Elementary for the good reviews and proximity to DH's job.  The school is fine, as is the neighborhood, but now that we're settled I'm looking for thing for myself and the little ones to do and new doctors for all of us as well as a dentist (dentists) and also a preschool.  The problem is that I know nothing about Phoenix and all our family and friends are essentially in New York or the Pacific NorthWest.  And Phoenix is such a huge city that searching online is frustrating because I don't know what's close,; having to map everything I want to check out is too time consuming.  I'm not even sure if this area of Phoenix has a specific name.

I'm hoping some of you are familiar with this area and have recommendations for doctors, dentists, mom and kid activities, preschools and so on.

Thanks in advance,

Heather (aka Lost in Phoenix)

  • Hi! Welcome to the valley.  Honestly, I don't have a whole lot of suggestions, but I just wanted to say welcome.  I live in South Phoenix (no, it's not ghetto,) but are looking to buy a new house exactly where you live.  We want to be in the PV school district.  My good friend is a school counselor and said PV is great.

Hopefully our house situation will work out soon and we could be neighbors. ;)

  • Hi! Not sure where in PV you are but I love the entire area around PV mall (tatum and cactus). I aloe live Desert Ridge :). My primary care physician is at Desert Ridge Family Physicians and I LOVE the entire practice!! They're website is www.desertridgefp.com. They're at tatum and the 101. My husband sees a dentist he lives at 7th st and bell, if that's not to far for you I'll get you the name. I also love my OB at Paradise Valley OBGYN located at 92nd st and Shea :). Let me know if I can help with anything else! Welcome to Phoenix!!

  • I don't know much about NE valley, I'm in SE, but just wanted to say hi and welcome to the area!

I haven't lived in the valley that long, so I totally get the frustration of trying to figure out where anything is!  It can be very overwhelming.

  • Welcome to the Valley. I don't have any recommendations as I live in the far southest valley but I wanted to say hi!

  • Hi Ladies

I just wanted to say thanks for all the warm welcomes and the tips.  DH's job is right at 7th Ave and Bell Rd, so we are becoming a little more familiar with that area.  Just visited the Cigna Clinic or Office near there because DS brought home the flu! :P  But, they seem very nice and thankfully we are all on the mend.

I've also visited Desert Ridge Marketplace; it's beautiful!!  Definitely a highlight of living here.  We hit the splashpad one warm Sept. afternoon and that was a lot of fun!  But I was really intrigued by the fireplace; had hoped to enjoy a cup of coffee there with DH, but looks like we may have missed the "cool season". :)  I'm also hoping to visit the Play Factory with the little ones.

Anyway, thanks again, and keep 'em coming. :)
