They hunt MEN in England!!!

W. T. F?? I thought this was just a sick & twisted short story?!?!

Coakham Hunt's greatest game pits bloodhounds against man

I know that the "prey" aren't actually harmed, but it still strikes me as yucky. Eliteist hunters have too much time on their hands, and want to hunt the "ultimate" quarry.

It gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Re: They hunt MEN in England!!!

  • I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing but it does sound creepy. And with animals, even trained ones, I'd be worried about someone getting hurt. Even that show Mantracker (I think that's the name) creeps me out. It's where someone on horseback hunts for 2 people who are navigating themselves in the wilderness. If the hunted get to the finished line before the hunter tracks them down they win. I know it's voluntary but it's creepy to watch people be in real fear of being hunted down.
  • I realize that I am probably going to be the minority here, but this doesnt really bother me.

As someone who has grown up competing on horses, I know how incredibley thrilling it can be to be on a "cross country" course.  It's amazing, and so very unpredictable.  While I have never participated in a fox hunt (and I don't think I ever would/could) I can see the appeal of doing a "mock hunt"

As long as the dogs are well trained and the "fox" is having fun, whats the harm?  These dogs are bred to track and believe me, these dogs LOVE what they do.  They are amazing athletes.  My cousin raises bloodhounds and they are some of the most amazing dogs I have ever worked with.

I think it seems like a pretty decent solution.  The riders, horses and dogs get the chance to get out and do what they love and there is no bloodshed in the end?  Sounds pretty good to me.  I realize that some people are only going to see it as "hunting" but when you have bred and trained animals there is something really wonderful about seeing them perform in their element.

  • I'm with Cheeky on this. It doesn't bother me or strike me as sick/twisted.

It's a consensual game which all parties enjoy and no one is getting hurt. I'd think the most-likely risk involved is falling and hurting yourself, and I'm sure they're all aware of that and accepting of it. Seems like a pretty good solution to me.

I agree with you completely. And it would be a good idea for me (or eerr - people like me) to give me (uuh - the people like me) an actual incentive to run, and keep running! Sounds like great exercise and fun. If, you know, you're into that kind of thing.

  • I definitely see everyone's point. Still find it somewhat icky.
