relocating to Phoenix

We are looking at possibly relocating to Phoenix from MN for my job. Office is actually in Tempe. Can you give me any ideas about affordable places to live for families? We're in our early 30s and have a 3 month old. We are going to need to rent for at least a year before we think about buying. Thanks!

Re: relocating to Phoenix

  • The whole area is incredibly affordable.  We live about 20 miles south of Tempe in Maricopa and love it.  It has a small town feel but is close enough to Tempe to be handy.  It is also much more diverse than other areas of the valley from what we have experiences.  Many people rave about both east and west valley too.  The whole area is great, we have loved it here since we moved from Philadelphia.  There are TONS of rentals available all over.

  • SM is right about rentals....I will add that if you work in Tempe it opens up Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert for eventual homes, the latter two  have great reps for families.  There are some rough areas of Tempe (everywhere of course but IMO more in Tempe) and its a college town so you may want to think about renting in Gilbert or Chandler nearest to Tempe instead.  Welcome!
  • I am from MN too, I miss it!  We live in Gilbert and find it affordable and a good area for a family.  We are planning on moving to Chandler or Ahwatukee to be a little more central as I drive all over the valley for work. There are tons of houses for rent right now, so you should be able to find something nice for a reasonable price.  Chandler and Ahwatukee would be close to Tempe, depending on where in Tempe your job is.  Good luck!
