... does anyone else feel like this board is a little bit like sitting in a room with a bunch of other people and no one is saying anything?!? A little awkward, huh?
LOL!
So, what's new and exciting (or not)? I've been off sick with a terrible chest cold all week and have been busy helping my cousin plan what will either be the most awesome north-west pacific island wedding ever or what will be the biggest train wreck in the history of train wrecks.
If you go over to the knot at all, you'll see that I've been having neighbour issues too... like seriously loud sex ones. UGH.
How's married life? Anyone have any big (or small) vacations planned? New hobbies? How're the jobs going?
I'm getting my very first student teacher in February, and I'm convinced the poor kid is going to be so disappointed! Really, I feel like half the time I have no idea what I'm doing.
Re: Aaand...
OMG, I honestly was about to start a new thread asking why it seems that everyone is MIA over here. Sadly, this board has not been lively lately...I'm totally guilty though, I don't post or respond as often as I would like.
Sorry to hear you are suffering through a cold and loud neighbors...I have loud neighbors myself, but it's just loud speaking voices and incredibly loud foot stomping as they walk across the floor...thankfully no loud sex noises (and hopefully I never hear it!). Married life is good, no set vacations planned as of yet, no new hobbies (besides exercising more regularly), and job is going well. I am hoping that 2011 is a great year...2010 definitely had its low moments, so I'm looking forward to good things this year.
I check here and there but feel like I have nothing valid to post about sometimes! ay.
I am finally getting to relax post-holidays! It has been non-stop baking and cooking at home and at work for me for the last two months! I finished it off this past weekend by baking a wedding cake for a friend. I will try to figure out how to PIP! It came out great and everyone raved about how good it tasted - red velvet with cream cheese. DH and I are munching on the leftover scraps!
We need to get our butts in gear for training because we are doing a run next month. I did it a few years ago and I want to beat my time, even if it is only a minute or two faster
I've got a trip planned - I'm visiting my family in two weeks for about 5 days! I haven't seen them since our wedding 3 months ago. Totally missed them for Christmas so I am very excited. I jumped on the ticket deal from Hawaiian so I lucked out. I wish DH was able to come with (he has to work) but I will enjoy the time with my fam and friends! I am also going to love not having to work for a little bit!
Tonight I'm sitting down with my SIL (whom I looove! she is seriously great) and we are doing our new years resolutions! I don't normally, but she made it sound fun. So we will see!
K- i hope you get some peace and quiet in your building (<---which sounds very charming by the way!). I hate bad neighbors
Apparently the guy who lives above us is a little "off" if he doesn't take his meds. His power got shut off yesterday so he was hanging out in the hallway, playing music after 10pm and another neighbor told us he walks around naked sometimes. uhhh....
yes!! I am guilty of not popping over here often enough (I didn't have a good home computer until recently).
We are going to CA next month. Jack's first b-day will be at Disneyland. Kind of over the top, but the ILs wanted to come and I just couldn't imagine hosting them (again, since they were here in Oct. and Dec) here in the winter so this was a good excuse for a quick vaca.
I'm sure you will be an awesome student teacher!
Guilty!!
Work has been getting the best of me these days so I haven't really been around to actually post something with substance
I'm a lurker, but not a poster *sigh*
Things have been crazy busy, both with getting ready for this baby and we are starting tax season in my office so it's been very hectic these days. Don't really think I'm handling the stress all that well, just trying to take things one step and one day at a time. Hopefully come April, you will see a lot more of me around these parts - post tax season and post baby.
However, I am leaving for a trip back home to AZ today and I'm so excited! Excited to see family, friends and enjoying some 70 degree weather
Hope you are feeling better these days, thanks for posting this!

Yes! I check in daily but didn't have anything to post... I'm still job hunting and it's been tough. The holidays were a nice distraction because we visited IL's in MN and attended a wedding but now that I'm back, I'm feeling the unemployment blahs again.
We're taking a trip to Vegas at the end of Feb. L had a bunch of points that were about to expire so we were able to get a hotel for a few nights from one airline, rent a car off points from another, and get tickets to a show as well! With the way things are going for me, I probably won't have a job by then either so we just kind of said, why not?
We might move apartments. We like where we are now but with only one income and an increase in utilities, food and other things since I moved in, it's going to get tough. Our lease is up and so of course our rent is going up as well. Not by much, actually I think the increase is a very fair amount but in our situation, it could make things very tough unless I find a job NOW.
We found a place for rent that includes some of the utilities we were paying for here (like $60 worth), plus the rent is $150 - $200 cheaper (depending on parking fee). It's being rented out privately as opposed to a property management company which has its pros and cons. The location is fine but the unit itself is not as nice as the one we live in now. Space-wise, it's about the same. We need to decided soon! I hate that this kind of rests on whether I can find work or not. I hate living like this...
Alyson, sorry to hear about your neighbours! They can really make or break your apartment! FWIW, if I were a student teacher, I'd feel very lucky to be in your class. You're obviously a very dedicated teacher!
Hope you feel better and good luck helping your cousin!
2011 has already been quite eventful for me. The program I work for hasn't recieved it's funding....so they are laying of 60+ peeps; me included. My orders end Feb 15.
( I've been there for almost 6 years, so it's been more sad than anything. Luckily we are all eligible for unemployment. You can watch the news clip here: http://www.abc27.com/global/category.asp?c=189669&autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=5455641
I have no idea what I'm going to do job wise. It's ugly out there right now and I don't have a bach. I'm debating about going back to school, since it's paid for by the military. But I don't even know what to go to school for. I was thinking maybe business, but I really want to make sure I go back for something that I can find a job in (unlike my photography background I have now). Any suggestions?!
Hubbers and I are adopting! Super excited about it...but also now a bit worried since I am about to lose my job. Not sure if that will effect anything in the actual process. :oP We're doing LOTS of fundraising though, so that should help with the adoption costs.
Oh my gosh Mariko, that's an insane amount of stuff on your plate!
Definitely do something school related. My Dad has 5 degrees, all paid for by the Canadian military. I'm a huge believer in taking advantage of free anything.
Congrats on the adoption process! That's intense. I have 4 adopted cousins and we're seriously considering going the same route.

Hi!
Sorry, I'm such a lurker! I'm kind of in shock that our first anniversary is coming up pretty soon! I have no clue where a year went...
I have neighbor issues too...although not of the loud sex sort. I wish we had a house with a nice big yard in between us and any neighbors to make a buffer. But that isn't easy to come by in Hawaii unless you are an uber-millionaire.
*sigh* I think I'll plan a trip to Vegas and hope I hit the jackpot!
