Dh needs a hug

Today was his last day at his current job- the new one starts Tuesday.  He had his security debrief, turned in his badge, and then went to lunch with the owner of his company.  He called me when he got out of lunch and was telling me about his day and he started to get emotional.  He absolutely loves his boss and the company he works for so I know he is leaving with a heavy heart.  It was so hard to know what to say b/c, while this is clearly a career change that we are making together, he's the one really going through it first.  For now, I get to keep going to the same office every day and carry on like nothing has changed.  I guess today was the day that it all finally became real.  In a cheesy way, it's kind of like the last day of high school.

On a side note, I have an interview on Tuesday for a new position where I currently work.  As improbable as that may sound, I applied for this job 5 months ago and they are just now doing interviews for it.  If they offer it to me I'll be taking it.  It would seem silly to turn down a 10+% pay raise, a window office, and the ability to say I earned my way to the 2nd highest job grade in the government before the age of 30.  There's still the remote chance I could be around for two more years so I've got to think about my career too ;-)

Re: Dh needs a hug

  • I can understand how he must feel. And that is pretty cool about your interview!
  • Yeah, it's hard when he freaks out a little about it because deep down inside I'm freaking out about it a lot!  I've been having secret fantasies about staying behind for a year or two and letting him take the kids overseas.  Stick out tongue

I really hope I get the job offer b/c it will put me in a better position if I ever come back to DC.  It'll be a little bit more painful to leave my job without a guarantee for a future career.  I don't think we'd hesitate so much but the money here is just unreal.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think we could do so well and here we are giving it all up!  We must be crazy!  ::deep breaths::  It'll be worth, it'll be worthy...god I hope it's worth it!

  • Poor guy! My first thought when I saw your post was "oh no! Is he sick too?!" Haha. I hope you get the job you are interviewing for, it sounds awesome!!

It will be totally worth it, Kendra. Think of all the amazing experiences that your kids are going to have! They will get to "Grow up" in a different country, and they will be exposed to other cultures. They are going to be so well rounded, and I'm sure they already are, but you get what I mean?

It's so cliche, but, 50 years from now you will be able to look back and say, "You know, we had a great life. We had an awesome opportunity to go overseas and we took it.

Think about if you didn't take it. 50 years from now you'd be saying, "what if we had only taken that opportunity to go over seas."

You are doing something that most people can only dream of doing!

Thanks for your kind words, Jena.  I was really needing that kind of pep talk today and it means a lot to me!
