**Disclaimer: apologies in advance if anyone did this.  I don't mean to offend, this just breaks my heart.

Okay, I get it, seashells and starfish are pretty.  I'll give them that.  The sea is lovely.

But I don't think anyone realizes, as they're setting up their  lovely seashell and starfish centerpieces and displays, that those things were ALIVE at one point.  Now, if they're collected on the beach, it's one thing.  But to purchase bulk from some company that farms them, just to decorate your pretty pretty princess day??  

Mmmmm, dead animals on your wedding tables, awesome.  I think if we do a vow renewal, I'll order myself some armadillos and shellac them, that would be pretty, right?

 

Grrrr. Sorry for the vent.  I've already told this woman what I thought of her ideas (unsolicited, on the classified boards), and I might drop into her post and say something else...  (I'm also PWing a little, I'm almost to 500 posts!)

The goldfish girls are bad too.  I feel like real fish *could* be done, but it would take some crazy careful planning - no kids, no booze, bettas, those water plant things for them to hide in, someone to set them up plenty in advance so they have time to relax before people show up, and responsible people that want to take them home and care for them.  The amount of care required to pull something like that off while trying to remain humane... so not worth the effort.  Flowers and crap don't care if you poke them.

lol, this too.  She said they measure about 4" wide, and she wants FIVE of them per bouquet.  That's a whole lot of ugly for any one person to carry.

Okay, someone else said they were ugly so I won't feel bad agreeing.  I hope the rest of the wedding is bright b/c those are a little drab.  If my students say something mean to someone I make them give that person a compliment so here it is: her guests will definitely remember these!  The bouquets will be very unique!

All I want to know is what happened the gal with the Cinderella mice??!?!  I hope so sweet baby j she did not, but if she did, I would have hoped it made the paper or something.  I would pay good money to find out what went down.  (Guests rioting, little kids grabbing centerpieces and shouting "Be free little mice!! Be freeeeeee!!")

Jena, if I'd been drinking liquid while reading your original post I would have snorted it out my nose because I laughed so hard at "death bouquets."

I've lectured far and wide about the shells people buy at shell shops (if it's shiny and in one piece it meant the animal was scooped out to give you your shiny new desk dust catcher).... The idea of doing a wedding THEMED with them makes me ill.  The people who artistically use pieces of coral as decor make me cringe, because someone broke off a piece of a living reef to do that

I'm an avid scuba diver when my bank account can afford it, so I feel a bit protective of the ocean reef's bounty.  I grew up with reef aquariums, and my family was HORRIFIED when someone gave us Christmas ornaments make from urchin bodies (making a snowman) - all we could think of was the poor urchins that died to make this ugly piece of crap.

And I totally dont get having shells as centerpieces. I went to a wedding on the cape and it was like seashell central. And all this talk about seashells has me thinking about this video...

She was actually a really good sport about it.  I still think it's wrong, but she did "recycle" another bride's starfish.

As for the shells, just for how it looks I think it would be silly...but that's just my taste

i wont lie....i had shell wreaths for the church doors and shells on the memorial tables....i'm an ocean girl, its in my blood....no shells on the cake they were white chocolate....my mom had done the wreaths and used her extra for the table.....i have a beautiful wreath for my house and my mom has the other.....i know that these were all natural....aka no animals where harmed in the making of these wreaths....they were either found abandoned in mattapoisett/marion/wareham/dartmouth etc or recycled from a wedding I was in a few years ago. still feeling guilty :P

Jena - I'm well aware of my warm final resting location.  It's waaayyy more fun to be bad that good.  :-)   and I'm actually older than you by 2.5 years (turning 31 in 2 months), so I'll be cheerfully waiting for you, and will start finding the tacky things that we can make fun of.

Dear God, I am a terrible person.  She does seem very nice.  And she says some nice things about me in her bio.  

I think that's so strange!  To be in someone else's bio.  Like Hannah said when she came across a picture of her in another bride's Must Take photos.  Cool and flattering, and just weird.
