Droid vs Iphone

Iphone and Droid users...likes and dislikes on your phone of choice?

I'm a Verizon customer so I'm a little hesitant to get the first round of Iphones for Verizon until they work out any kinks.  I also like the Droid that has the QWERTY keyboard because the touch screen is hard, man.  BUT Apple has way more apps.

thoughts?

Re: Droid vs Iphone

  • I have a Droid and am completely happy, but I tend to think Apple is overhyped, though solid.  I haven't found any apps that I wanted that weren't available.  AND my phone actually makes phone calls, however I hold it.

  • I'm planning to be a Verizon iphone early adopter.  I'm a little nervous about the kinks, but I've heard many more negative reviews of droid phones than positive reviews.  The way I see it, anything is better than the phone I have now.

  • I'm having the same delima.  I'm up for a new phone next week, but I'm AT&T.  I've heard a lot of complaints about the newest blackberry, and I remember a few folks here not loving the new iphone, but I'm not sure if those issues would bother me since I'm not used to the old iphone.

  • I have an HTC Evo, and I love it. But I think it might only be available on Sprint.

This is one of the neater Android-only apps: http://www.google.com/mobile/goggles/#text

  • I also have the HTC Evo and I am in lurrrrrrve. I like it much better than Dan's iPhone, and so does he. It's a little less restricted and locked down, and all the apps I want are available for Android. Plus, 4G, mmmm speedy.

  • With the Android phones, it really depends on the model you get. I have the HTC Eris and I want to throw it against a brick wall. The memory suuuuucks and the lag time after you end a call is ridiculous (like if you hang up and immediately try to make another call, you CAN'T. It's weird. It gets all bogged down and weird).

Everyone I know who has the Motorola Droid loves it though.

  • We don't have 4G in San Diego yet, but I used it when we were in SF and it was magical.

I just looked at Sprint's 4G map - WTF. They have it in Merced, Stockton, Modesto, and Visalia, but not San Diego? Jerks.

  • My HTC Hero seemed cool at first, but a couple months in it started getting all frozen and rage inducing.  I want an Evo REAL BAD.  But, we can upgrade one phone next month and the next won't be eligible until next December.  I feel like D should get the new phone since I have the iPad.  I guess we could both upgrade now, but that's some serious scratch, yo.

  • Mine is an LG Ally and I love it.  I've always had good luck with LG phones so I stuck with them.

  • I plan to "root" mine this weekend so that I can get rid of all the crap Sprint put on it (seriously, I don't need the NASCAR app) and make it do other cool shiiit like act as a mobile hotspot.

    I love this phone.

Oooh, let me know how that goes. I've been considering it but I'm skeered I'll screw it up. Do you have that damn Amazon MP3 app? Pisses me off. You can't delete it and it runs in the back all the time.

  • If you download Advanced Task Killer it turns the amazon music thingy off.

  • But then it comes back on again! I hate it.

  • Your phone is stupid then. Mine doesn't do that.

  • I have the new iphone 4 and I actually love it.  My only complaint is the screen is pretty sensitive when you're in the middle of a call and I sometimes mute someone with my cheeks.

  • Is rooting like tethering?

I would get a Droid if I got a smart phone.  But I'm cheap and if I need something from the interwebz, usually someone with me has a smart phone, so we use theirs.

  • Rooting is basically giving yourself admin access so you can remove all the crap that comes standard on the phone. There are certain apps that require a rooted phone (like the tethering apps, a screencap app, etc.)
