whoops

For the third day in a row, we've kept Owen running around way past nap time, only to have him fall asleep in the car 10 minutes from home.  MH has been downstairs trying to get him to nap for the last 40 minutes...I haven't heard a peep from MH, but I keep hearing random talking, clapping, and singing from Owen.  Hmmm, I wonder which one of them is asleep?

Re: whoops

  • If Helen falls asleep in the car too close to nap time, she won't sleep at home.  Even a 5 minute car nap is ruinous.  I will do almost anything to keep Helen awake in the car if we're on our way home and it's too close to nap time.  My latest trick is to keep a fun size bag of M&Ms in my purse and feed them to her if she's looking sleepy.  She'll almost always stay awake to eat candy!

hehehe...I tried that trick driving back from the doctor's the other day, using an M&M chip cookie, and it totally backfired on me because Owen got zoo-y on sugar and ran around like a nut for an hour before I could convince him to sleep.

Well, Owen finally fell asleep today after about an hour, and as I predicted, MH drifted off too.  The only thing that woke him was the neighbor ringing the doorbell because MH left the trunk of the car open.  I was supposed to get to spend the rest of Owen's nap relaxing, watching TV, and going through old magazines (since I've been cleaning and running errands for MIL's visit all day), but of course Owen is in the kind of nap mode where someone MUST be touching him or he'll wake up...and MH has gone off to do other things.  I can't catch a break today.

Now I want an M&M chip cookie!

Same here! Glad I'm not the only one. My mother thought I was crazy when I was trying to keep him awake once "5 minutes isn't going to make him not nap" Oh really!? One of my favorite tricks is to open and close his window when he starts to fall asleep. It's so sad because he looks so sweet when he's sleeping and who wants to be forced to stay awake when they area tired, but you gotta do what you gotta do! I'll have to try the candy trick, although I'd probably get the sugared up zoo-y outcome too!
