LG washer/dryer problems.

Hi, Not sure where else to post this...

I have an LG energy star wm3431hw washer/dryer combo. It never really dried that great. Of course right after the 1 year warranty ran out, it totally stopped running on any setting but timed dry. The timed dry needs to be ran like 2-3 times (which takes a few hours each). It now takes longer to use the dryer than to hang dry the clothes! Problem is we live in the city, in a small condo and don't have room to hang clothes all over our place to dry (which is what I have to do even after they run through the dryer). Literally, it takes me like 24 hours to do 1 small load of laundry. So obviously I can never get caught up on the laundry.

I've read bad reviews online about this washer/dryer, but also that LG is doing nothing to acknowledge the problem. Does anyone know what I can do legally? I haven't contacted LG yet, except to find a local service company. But honestly I have no idea how much that will even cost to have someone look at it.

I'm not sure where I'd even fit a normal washer/dryer, since our space was designed for the combo one. Does anyone know or have any other combo washer/dryer that works? Any other ideas besides wearing dirty clothes or going to a laundry mat?

  • I know in Maine it is the law that there is a Warranty Of Merchantability on all things, and the company can't void the law except used cars that state "as is" and that things must work as expected for their useful life (W/D is 12-14 years).

I googled for PA law and only found a booklet on the PA attorney general's site that wasn't promising. pg 60.

Maybe give the consumer protection division of the AG's office a call and ask about the law in PA.

  • Did you use a credit card to purchase it? I know American Express extends your warranty for a year and some other do similar thing. It may be worth a shot to look into.
  • I don't know the answer to your question...but we have an LG dryer and have the same problems!  I have to use the timed dry setting, and do it about 3 times to get things dry.  We recently moved, and we thought something happened to the dryer in the moving truck and just never looked into it.  Now I realize it's just that the dryer stinks!

No we didn't actually purchase it, the people we bought our place from did. So it was brand new. I'm sure I could ask the original purchaser, but it's been about 2.5 years since it was purchased.

    Ugh. I know, totally frustrating!

  • I have the same exact issue! Let me tell you a secret though, if you put it on the normal/perm press cycle or what ever cycle you use regularly and then click the "wrinkle care" button it will override the sensor and dry you clothes perfectly! It is the sensor that is broken, not the dryer, but it is liek $200+ labor... so since I found my trick then I will use if til I can buy a new one.

Hmmm. Of course, mine doesn't have that button!

  • how long is your duct run? that can greatly affect the performance of your dryer. also, have you had the duct cleaned recently? and you always clean your lint filter right? have you tried having the unit serviced to see if there is actually something wrong with it? i don't think that legally you can do something since the unit is so old and out of warranty.
