If you have the latest-generation kindle, be careful with the regular cover from amazon, the one that looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Lighted-Leather-Display-Generation/dp/B003DZ167K/ref=_1_6
I got my new kindle in November, and have consistently been having problems with it rebooting while I'm trying to read, or the screen freezing, or it doesn't turn on from an "off" or "screensaver" mode. These problems can be fixed in the short term by rebooting the kindle (hold the power button to the right for 15 seconds), but they would just happen again and again.
Finally this evening I got an answer from Amazon that was actually helpful: take the cover off!
Apparently, they have been having problems with this cover, and other covers that use the little metal hooks that insert into the left hand side of the kindle to hold it on. Many people have had the same problems I was, and resolved when they take the cover off.
I've only had my cover off for a few hours, but normally I'd have a dozen freezes or reboots during that time period. So far I've had none. The amazon representative recommends this cover, although I haven't bought it yet: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004289Z5W/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A1QGIDACEIIO9M
It's cheaper than the other cover, and comes with accessories. Also, qualifies for super saver shipping.
If you're having problems with your kindle rebooting or freezing, call Amazon. They will refund the money spend on the cover, and send you a mailing label to return the item.
Re: kindle girls

The refund for my cover that I bought with my kindle was just processed (maybe four hours after I called them). They emailed me a mailing label to return it, but I definitely won't get to that until Tuesday.
I'll keep an eye on it this weekend, but taking the cover off definitely seems like it has solved my rebooting issue!

Sorry, I guess I should have posted this for everyone when I told Crows.
Yes, this is a problem I heard about the day after I got it, on another board. I had heard it was the non-lighted case that was the problem so we called and said, 'hey, it's doing x, is it the case?" and they said, "yep, we think so, we'll refund you the case you bought and give you $25 toward a lighted case". The credit was there immediately and Nick bought the lighted one and we had it the next day. No problems since.?
