Flu shot

I got a call from my mom urging me to check into the flu shot a little more. Obviously I'm going to discuss this further with my pedi, but I would like to know if you or your child have/are gotten/getting the flu shot and why/why not. TIA! My mom said that the news has reported multiple hospitalizations from the flu in children this year.

Re: Flu shot

  • I got the flu shot for the first time ever this year. I got it at my first OB appointment when I was about 6 weeks along, so technically our child got it too :). I was still a little apprehensive to get it, but I figured I better since I'm not only pregnant but around little kids all day every day. DH also got it for the first time this year. Neither of us had any side effects and neither of us has gotten the flu.
  • I always get the flu shot, and so does H. He can't afford to not work because he's sick (time is money for attorneys, after all) and I hate missing work. Our students seem to be champions at carrying various viruses so I figure I don't want to take my chances.

I have never had the flu, ever. I've never had strep, either. I am currently knocking on wood. I really don't get sick much anymore. Teaching builds that immune system, it would seem.

  • I have not once, in my entire life, had the flu shot. And, I've never, ever had the flu, either. As far as I'm concerned, I don't plan on getting one, either.

Which, is perfectly fine by me... I hate shots.

  • I always get the flu shot.  I work in a hospital and am around sick people all day so it just a way I can protect myself.  I've never had any side effects, my arm is usually a little sore for a couple of days, but it is better than being sick.

  • I think you have to do what you think is best for your family. M has gotten the flu shot this year and the past. DH and I have both gotten the shot this year. With the past year that we had (I went to the ER twice since I had been really sick) we thought it would be best to protect ourselves. We are also around people all day so germs and viruses are spread around alot.

I think just like any other vaccination you just need to do your research and figure out what is best for your family.

  • I've only had the flu shot once - the hospital gave it to me after JJ was born. I haven't gotten the flu shot since, and neither has JJ. I'm just too iffy about the vaccination to have JJ get it. I might change my mind about it in the future, but for now, we have no plans for him to get it. Not sure I'll get it again, either.

  • I always get it....have every year as long as I can remember. I am part of the high risk population with my lung problems and because I work in healthcare. I have never had the flu and I am a firm believer in getting it especially if you come in contact with a lot if people on a regular basis or you have children in school/daycare. I just think it helps ward off the illness.
