I asked this a few months ago and can't find the post. The place we ususally board P is not doing boarding for a few weeks in february for overnight guests and of course it's the week we are out of town. We usually board at Lazy Dog Crazy Dog and love it but now I'm scrambling to find another place. Hopefully one that keeps us updated on how he's doing. I'm starting to stress. I don't like leaving him as it is. We'd be gone 8 nights.
Re: Dog boarding recs
We love Club K-9 on Lombard. They do great there, and they stay in hotel-like rooms, rather than kennels. We also love that they get to play in the daycare all day - plus it's one of the least expensive in town.
And they are happy to give me updates when I call to check on them.
It's a ways out there, but Dogs at Play in Forest Grove is amazing. We boarded our dog there when we went to Hawaii this summer.
If you're on facebook - Paula posts pictures almost every day of what the dogs have been up to all day.
It's also cheap - $15 a day - which is really the best we'd found anywhere.
We board our dog at Bark Zone. Not sure where you are but its by the airport in Hillsboro. She always seems very happy when we bring her home and everyone there's really nice.
And they have a web camera so you can check in on the dogs.
We LOVE Burley's Dog Ranch. When I say LOVE, I mean LOVE! It's a bit of drive up to skyline but so worth it. Wendy & Bob only watch 7 dogs per night, they have an indoor play house and acres of outdoor space. The dogs can get "private" play if you don't want them around other dogs or they can play with the other dogs. Unlike other places where they get a couple of 30 minute play times per day, due to Wendy being home and limiting the number of dogs, they play a ton and are tired & satisfied when they come home. I would say they are pretty inexpensive ($25/night/1 dog, or $38/night/2dogs/sharing).
Wendy is the primary caretaker- which is great because the dogs don't have to get used to anyone new everyday vs if you left them at a larger facility with multiple employees. Bob and Wendy's dad also help once in a while. Anyway, I obviously can't say enough of how wonderful these people & place are.
I DON'T recommend Stay Pet Hotel. We used to leave the pups there but just didn't get good vibes from the different employees, wasn't ever sure how much play time the dogs got. They complained that Scotti always had diarrhea when we left him there but I've asked Wendy and she said not once has there been a problem. Who knows.
So they do get to play all day? the website for Burley's makes it sound like it's only 30 minutes of play time several times a day. I want Pasco to be somewhere he's going to get to spend time with dogs/people.
They aren't outside ALL day (especially if the weather's bad). We ask for private play for ours (bcuz of Scotti), so when the other dogs are playing indoors, ours are out & vice versa. We've been leaving them there for about 2 years, for long weekends & over 2 weeks at a time and haven't had any issues. We used to call Wendy on her cell to check on the dogs during our trips away but have weaned ourselves away from doing that. I've felt pretty assured that if there's ever a problem they'd call me asap. I was somewhat nervous about leaving Scotti during his 6 months of chemo, which we ended up doing this Dec and they was very attentive to our instructions for care 2 days post chemo just in case he had problems.
