In efforts to be better, I am trying to eat oatmeal, however, I love it sweet. I used to put lots of brown sugar in it as a kid. I am wondering what do you add to your oatmeal? I am not a fan of fruits in it to be honest and need some ideas.

Re: Oatmeal
Teresa, try some sugar free maple syrup. I sometimes add about 1 tsp for some sweetness.
here is a post from the H&F that has some options for oatmeal.
I'm probably not much help since I like mine with fresh fruit. But, I do like to add in raw unsweetened coconut butter, it's still sweet without the sugar added in. Some other options are peanut butter, maple syrup.
I wrote a post about my oatmeal that may help you, you can add Splenda or Sugar Free Maple to is, but I find the raisins to sweeten it enough for me.

I'm also a fan of cinnamon and raisins in my oatmeal (do you count raisins as fruit?).
Lately I've discovered the yumminess of canned pumpkin and cinnamon in oatmeal. Tastes almost like pumpkin pie!
I think the important thing with weaning yourself from adding extra things like sugar or salt to food is to measure what you're adding. Try it first without sugar, you might be surprised and like it just fine. If you MUST add sugar, use measuring spoons instead of the spoon you'll eat with. This way you can start small, like 1/2 tsp. or less. This will help you count the calories you're putting in and give you an idea of how much you need to cut.
I hope you find a non-sugar recipe you like!
Oh! I just remembered, light yogurt is REALLY good in oatmeal too! It's usually made with an artificial sweetener and has lower calories, but adds a good amount of sweetness to the oatmeal. Plus it sneaks in a serving of dairy.
I used to do vanilla, strawberry, or blueberry, but you could use any flavor you like!
