WWYD?

A friend from HS is having her 30th bday party in two weeks, she invited me via facebook, we aren't super close, but when we see each other always have fun, she's closer with my BFF.

So this party is a "theme" party 20s-50s dress, cocktail attire. I just learned this as I didn't receive an actual paper invite. I thought it would be fun to go (it's in CT) and see old friends, grab a drink and introduce DH to some old friends and toast my friend. This theme dress is making me rethink going. Is it bad if we don't dress up, and just show up in coctail attire but not "themed"  My BFF is getting a pulse on what others are doing, but I know that she's excited about her bday party, but the theme is throwing me off.

  • /ugghh theme parties

The one time I went to a theme party not dressed up, I felt really akward, it was a total accident we weren't dressed up.  We went to the island to visit for the weekend and our friends were having a boathouse party and forgot to mention that it was a pimps and hoes theme.  Maybe it was because my friends were jerks about it, or I just over that crap.  I didn't have fun.

I would see what everyone else is doing but it would be fun to go.

  • Could you find a cocktail dress that might pass as a modern version / twist on the theme and then just dress it up with accessories / hair-do?  Then maybe you'd have a  fighting chance of wearing your dress again?

If it's only the theme that's holding you back, I'd still go. It sounds like there are plenty of people that you'd like to see and introduce DH to and that might keep your attention rather than worrying about the theme.

  • I would probably do a roaring 20s theme and just wear a long pearl necklace, and maybe a fun hairpiece! This way you're not totally out of place!

I can totally do that, as I have pearls, and stylish headbands are in style again. Dh will just wear a blazer, jeans and button down, I can look trendy" Nice call Ana:)
