crockpot w/ timer?

I love my current crockpot, but would like to get a new one with a timer to start the cooking - so I could have it start up while we're at work and dinner will be ready when we get home.  I think they make them like this.  Any recommendations?

Re: crockpot w/ timer?

  • I don't have a rec for a crockpot, since I mine doesn't have a timer. But, another option would be a timer outlet plug... something like this -- http://www.amazon.com/Woods-59200-Appliance-Settings-2-Prong/dp/B001Q9EFTG

Or, here are two more options for the same type of outlet timer: http://www.improvementscatalog.com/product/digital-light-and-appliance-timer.do

Way cheaper than buying a new crock pot, especially if you love yours! :)

  • By saying you want to have it start up while you are at work, you are looking for a delay timer?  I wouldn't recommend that because that would require you to leave raw, uncooked meat out on the counter, exposed to air, thus growing bacteria, and essentially spoiling the food.

My crockpot has a timer, but its for when you start cooking it.  It will then turn itself to the "keep warm" function when the time is up.  I set mine for 8 hrs and then it will stay on the warm setting for 2 more hours, so this allows us to get home from work with enough time that the food is still warm.

This. Crockpots don't have a delay for this very reason.

I also have a crockpot with a timer that starts when you begin cooking and then switches over to Keep Warm.  If I were planning to cook something while I was at work, I'd pick a recipe that I could cook on low for 8-10 hours.

I have this one & I like it a lot.  My old crockpot only had a 4-6-8-10 hour settings.  This one lets you do 1/2 hour increments.  I like it a lot.  Though, I do find it to cook fast, so I'll usually set it for 1/2 hour less & let it "keep warm" until I need to serve.
