Speaking of washers and dryers...

Keeping with the recent washer/dryer posts...  Stick out tongue

DH and I are expecting our first LO in June. I'm really interested in looking at a new/used HE washer/dryer. I've looked at Samsungs, Maytags, Electrolux, etc, and I'd really like some opinions on them. Here's what we'd like/need:

High Efficeincy (duh) and Energy star

Something that reduces odors well- we have 2 cats, one of which has peed on some clothes and after multiple washes they still stink. Also our current washer just makes our clothes stink.

Possibly something that reduces allergens? with pets, DH who has allergies and a LO one the way we'd like something that would be good for all.

Something relatively quiet (our washer walks when it is on the spin part of the cycle)

... If you have any not so great experiences, please let me know too. Oh and in the summer I use our clothes line, so the dryer would be for mostly winter. Thanks! Smile

Re: Speaking of washers and dryers...

  • even if you get an energy efficent washer, it is hard to get the cat urine smell ouf of cloth! I have found that if I pre-soak it in an enzymatic cleaner and then wash with lots of vinegar in the wash it comes out the first try.

  • many of the front loaders walk because they spin cycle is so intense. and i don't think any washer will reduce allergens... that would be more dependent on the soap. all three of the brands you mentioned are very good. i don't recommend the ge front loader.
