how old were they when you had them done?
where did you do it?
if not-
how come? will you let them get it done as a child?

Re: moms of girls-ear piercing
Macie had her ears pierced when she was 3 1/2 months old. Her pediatrician recommended doing it at a young age because I could make sure they stayed clean. I took her to the piercing pagoda mostly because I didn't want the gold studs that the pedi puts in ( I know that sounds awful.) And my pedi was fine with me taking her there. Macie has never had a problem with them. It is like she grew up with them as part of her so she does not play with them.
I also plan on getting the twins ears pierced too.
- DD (15) does. She got them pierced when she was 14. Her choice at that point - I had offered it to her when she was around 8 years old, and she was too nervous about it! We had it done at Claire's at Warwick Mall.
- DD (almost 1) does not. I have no desire to get her ears pierced anytime soon. I will give her the option when she is about 7 or 8, when i feel that she can take care of them herself.
do your daughters have their ears pierced? C does R does not
how old were they when you had them done? She started asking me around 2. She actually asked her dr at her 3 yr check-up!
where did you do it? Drs. office

do your daughters have their ears pierced? No
if not- how come? I have several reasons for not having had Shannon's ears pierced yet.
(1) I was not going to put my daughter through any kind of optional or elective pain as an infant. I don't care how short the duration. She had no voice, and I was not going to subject her to it.
(2) Now she's a toddler and it's hard enough keeping her hair pulled up, she'd yank the earrings out if I were to do it at this age
(3) Now we have a mobile infant who loves to grab at anything dangly or shiny (ie, hair or jewelry, including earrings)... I don't wear earrings all that often right now because Kyle's ripped them out of my ears. NOT going to let him do that to his sister.
(4) My sister had earrings as a child, more because she felt pressured into it. Later on, she let her ears close up. But the evidence is still there. Even as an adult, my sister is not a jewelry girl (well, except for her engagement and wedding rings). While Shannon may seem frilly and girly now, I don't want to pressure her into anything.
(5) What it ultimately boils down to is that I am not a fan of infants/toddlers with ears pierced. People can do what they want with their child, and I would never judge them on the decision to or not to pierce the ears of their daughters, but I won't do it to mine that young.
will you let them get it done as a child? If she wants to get earrings, I'll let her, but probably not until she is school-aged (5+). I was 5 years old when I had my ears pierced, and I remember it being so special. I had earrings just like mom!! I was old enough to understand that I had to keep them clean, although my mother did have to help me clean them. I really wanted them pierced.

I hate you very much
Pretty much this exactly. Like Alicia, I don't judge what others do their babies but I don't like it or personally agree with piercing babies ears. It is just NMS at all.
Both girls had them done at about 3 months. Their pediatrician did it and it was actually one of the criteria I had when picking a pedi. For us, it's a cultural thing. It's the norm (for the most part, as there are exceptions to every generalization) in Latino culture. Both have had them in since 3 months & we've never had an issue with them yanking at them or tearing them out. Even when the baby was smaller & very much into grabbing things, she never got near her sister's earrings.
My aunt took me when I was about 9 or 10 and I had a HORRIBLE experience. They got infected, closed up, it was awful. I got them redone at 13. So my feeling is that that's when Charlie can get them done - at 13, unless there's some pressing need - like she's in a wedding and she really wants them done.

I will restate what Alicia said, absolutely not judging anyone who has done it, but I felt that Melinda should have a say in the matter. I didn't want to put her through unnecessary pain, albeit short. It's not a cultural thing for us to have ears pierced in my family, it's purely aesthetic. So I'll wait until she's old enough to decide.
With that said, I was 14 when I had mine pierced and it was horrendous. They were terribly infected (despite mine and my mother's best efforts to keep them clean) and I actually had to go to the doctor. So maybe that's why I'm reluctant? I don't know. But I'll wait until she starts asking for them.
This, exactly. You and I go to the same pedi office, Erica. They do them there. Dr. Griffith did Amelia's and it was one of the things on my list when looking for a pedi. I also like that HE did them, not a nurse or a med assistant.
