XP: SIL Baby Shower Advice Scrapbook

For my SIL's baby shower this weekend, I'm going to put together an "advice scrapbook".  I ran the idea by her and she loves it especially since we're not doing games and the majority of the attendees at the shower are mothers.  The idea is that we'll have a book float around with pages in it that are decorated, of course.  Each page will have a "theme" i.e. "Potty-Training Advice".  Where I'm asking help for you ladies is some ways to maybe make it special as well as some categories for advice.  I'm not a mom myself so I'm not really sure where most advice is needed sometimes.  I wasn't sure where exactly to post this but I hope you can help!

Re: XP: SIL Baby Shower Advice Scrapbook

  • I like the idea, but the book floating around not so much.  It may miss people, I get "stage fright" about writing in something nice and forget what to say.  Also if you only have a few participate a premade book may look sparse in some categories and not enough in others.

So, my idea to tweak it.  Set up an advice table.  Have a bunch of different sized pieces of scrapbook paper for people to write on and some nice pens.  Let people write on these instead of directly into a book.  This will let them think about it and start over if they mess up.  On the table also have baskets/bowls/whatever corresponding to an advice them.  Have people put the advice in each basket.

You can then draw out of these baskets for a little prize at the end.  The baskets can go to mom after the shower to help her organize.

When the shower is over you can organize a scrapbook of whatever size to fit the advice.

For categories- "the best thing ever," "when you're at your wit's end," "how to deal with unwanted advice,"

Another thought, if you can let people know ahead of time it may help.  I like time to think.

  • That's a really good idea!  Thanks!

I've actually done this several times before and it's always turned out great.

I like OP's idea of "thought starters" with the different categories too.  GL!
