Areas to relocate

Hi All, my husband just got notice that he may be laid off in the coming months. If this happens we have decided we would just relocate. He is in law enforcement so I am not even sure there are jobs to be found in South Carolina. But my question to you all is where are some top notch places to consider in South Carolina? We want easy access to a beach.. we want superb public schools, lower taxes, house prices not too insane.... Any good suggestions for me? I appreciate any input you can provide to me.

Um, we have law enforcement here, you know.

SC isn't exactly known for it's school system. I hear okay things about Summerville school district and Mount Pleasant schools. If we are still here when DS is school aged, he will be going to private schools.

Mt. P would be close to the beach, but I don't know what "not insane" housing prices are to you. Most of what we look at in Mt P is in the $500k range.

Daniel Island may also appeal to you though I believe most residents use private schools.

we live in mount pleasant and everything is not in the $500 range. but you aren't going to find a single family home under 200,000-250,000 (and in that price range it is def going to be small.) the schools are pretty good from what i hear- i dont have children, yet.

daniel island is much more expensive than other areas of charleston. and, the schools on daniel island are public. daniel island elem, daniel island middle, then the high school is hanahan. but there is a private hs on di, bishop england (catholic school)

i live in mount p and work on daniel island. i love living in mount pleasant. i think it's the best out of the towns around charleston but that's just my opinion.

I didn't say everything was that price. I only know what we look at.

I agree, Mt. P is a great place  to live.

  • Holy cow, Punky, what are you looking at in Mt. P that's in the 500K range?  We have been looking at 4 or 5 bd and 2+ bathrooms in Mt. P and we have found MANY great homes, well under 300K.

To OP, Mt. P is a great spot.  It's near the beaches and has really good schools.  Summerville is also wonderful and is much cheaper, but it's further from beaches.
