What did you do with your dress??

Morning ladies!

I'm wondering what you all did with your dress? I don't see wearing it or giving it to my daughters, but am a little apprehensive to sell it.

 What did you do?

Re: What did you do with your dress??

  • I haven't decided yet, but I think I am just going to preserve it, and just keep it.  It's to special to me I feel like!  Maybe make some pillows out of it? I don't know.

  • I decided to keep mine because, even though a future daughter probably wouldn't wear it, pieces of it can be used in all sorts of projects.  I think it's really sweet when a wedding dress is used to make christening/baptism gowns and quilts that could possibly be passed down through the family.

If you don't see yourself keeping it for any of those reasons and don't want to sell it, you could always find one of those charities that helps brides in need.

  • I sold mine to a local bride who really needed it.  I sold it for pennies on the dollar, but to be honest, am kind of regretting it-not that I would have EVER done anything with it..

  • I wasn't even trying to sell mine and someone contacted me off of the knot wanting to buy it. She gave me $100 less than I bought it for so I sold it. Otherwise, it would probably just still be hanging in my closet.

  • Mine is still dirty and hanging in my closet. I have no idea what to do with it. I really don't trust the dry cleaners here with it, so I think it will just stay that way for awhile.
  • Mine is hanging in a closet at my parent's house.  I am going to keep it - and then each baby I have will get a baby blanket made from some of the material.  There was some beading on the dress that I am going to save - so if I have a daughter then we can use some of the beading in her dress!  :-)

  • I put mine in a big shopping bag to bring it back from Mexico. It's still sitting in that bag... dirty... on the floor of my closet. Ooops.

Mine is a dress for Aislyn to wear when she is Christened.  If there is enough left, I am asking for a boy one to be made too.

  • I sewed the pearls of my mom's dress to my hair flower. Her dress was beautiful and I would have love to use it, but she was like a size 2 when she got married and I'm a 16...so there was no way I was gonna fit in it.

With that same idea I think I wanna keep mine, so my daughter (or son) can use parts of it on their wedding. The beading, fabric for a handkerchief or something like that. I'm also keeping my mom's pearls for my children to use if they want to.

  • Mine is still in the garment bag, dirty, wrinkled, etc. at my parent's house.  They took it back home with them so I'd have less things to cart home myself.
  • Mine is still in its garment bag, dirty as well!  I think I will eventually get it preserved when I get around to it (which means it will probably be hanging in its bag for another 6 months, lol)

I like the idea of using it for kids, though... that is IF we ever choose to have any!

  • Mine is still dirty, it's garment bag in a heap in the office.  I plan to have it cleaned and made into something... christening gown, baby blanket etc.
  • Dirty and hanging in my closet.  Until Sunday (literally) it was in a heap in the laundry room.  Baby steps...
  • Mine is clean at least, but it's hanging at my parents house. I still have no idea what I'm going to do with it.

  • Mine is dirty and hanging in the closet as well.  I have a feeling it will be like that for awhile.

  • Sounds like I'm the odd man out.  I got my cleaned and preserved in a box about 2 weeks after we got back.  I got my dress at David's.  The day I bought my dress I also bought the preservation kit.  It was really very simple.  Here's a link:

It's sitting on the top shelf of my closet.  If I really want to do something with it one day I'll just go ahead and open up the box :)

  • My dry cleaners donated it at my request.  They donate to Brides Against Breast Cancer.

    This.

  • I have no idea what to do with it.  It?s just hanging in my closet for now.  Who knows if I'll ever do anything with it.  Is that odd that I don't really have any attachment to my dress?
