S/O post...how old was your baby/babies when

You left them with a babysitter for the first time? And for what length of time did you leave them?

Re: S/O post...how old was your baby/babies when

  • Mine were probably around a month old or so.  DH and I went to dinner.  But realize mine were in the NICU for their first 17 days of life.  The only ppl to ever watch them to this day are family members.

  • Aiden was a little over a month old. My MIL watched him so H and I could go out for dinner on his birthday. We were only gone for a few hours. Like PP said, only family members have ever watched Aiden before. This friday will be the only time a friend will be watching him for me.

    I love my crazy child!

  • I think he was about 2 months when I left him with my mom so DH and I could go get a shake at Steak n Shake.  I think he was 3ish months when I left him with my MIL for an afternoon so I could go help at a baby shower at my former job.

Pretty much the same here.  I think it was about a month after we brought them home, but then again I don't remember a whole lot from that time frame!

Also when there were really little whichever family member did watch them, they always had someone there to help too.  It just made me feel better to know that my sitter was not outnumbered:)

  • Just over a month old...I NEEDED to see Harry Potter in the theatre even though my eyes did start to get watery on the way there.
  • I was in grad school when I had DD so the first time I left her at home was when she was 10 days old because I had to go to class.  My parents watched her.  With DS, we didn't go out without him for a while as I recall.  Honestly, I was so exhausted and overwhelmed that I didn't feel up to it.  I wouldn't have felt guilty leaving either of them behind- newborns have the memories of gnats- but I was so out of it that I just didn't care much about getting out of the house.  If someone offered to watch the baby, I would have wanted to use that time to sleep instead!
  • DD was about 8 weeks old, and we left her for about seven hours - I went to a Rays game (with the Summer Concert Series) with DH and my sister.
  • At 3 weeks.  MIL was here and I needed to see the OBGYN for ... issues.  She was here 2-3 hours alone with MIL.  Surprisingly, DD survived.

  • DD was about a month old when we left her for 2 hours so we can go to my work Christmas party. My mother, who at that time was staying with us, watched her. She was 6 months old when we left her with an actual babysitter so H and I can go to the movies.

  • Around 3 weeks, my mom came over so I could go get my hair done.  I was chomping at the bit to get back home to her, I missed her SO MUCH.  The second time was around 6 weeks, MIL was down from NY and I pumped a couple bottles so we could go out for cocktails and a movie.  We saw Benjamin Button and the sound of the baby crying sent me into hysterics and I almost made DH take me home :-)
  • About 6 weeks. H and I went to a daytime St. Patrick's Day party and MIL stayed with DS. Up to the point, I hadn't really left him for any time even with H, so I was very much in need of getting out and having fun. Since I knew he was in capable hands, I was able to enjoy myself, although I probably spent most of the time talking about him.

  • The first time I left DD was when I went back to work.  And she was 8 months old at that point.  I would have left her sooner, but I had PPD really bad so I hardly left the house.  So far the only people who have watched DD are grandparents.  I would not hesitate to let my BFF's watch her (they are both family to me and both have kids of their own).
