I got my new social security card in the mail this morning as I was on my way out the door to get my new driver's license. Now I need to go change my name at the bank and with my other accounts.
Changing my name has been kind of bittersweet. I love my new name and having the same name as my husband. I love his family so I am proud have their last name. But it means giving up my family's name. My mom said today, "This means you're not mine anymore." I told her that wasn't true, I'll always be her daughter, but it is kind of weird not having my family name anymore.
Anyone else having mixed feelings about their new name?
Re: Changing my name
Not caring about missing RSVPs because there aren't any rocks!
yeah, the only place I've changed my name so far is Facebook, but that counts the most, right?
I have to wait for our certificate before we can start to do anything formal over here.
Where we met - Mount Isa
a small mining town in the Australian Outback. Neither of us are from there but we both moved there in the second last year of highschool. He was moved next to me in maths class to stop him talking. It didn't work.
I'm actually leaving for the DMV in just a few moments to get my official D.L. with the new name. I kept my maiden as my second Middle name so I can still see it and know it's not forever gone. Really...my married name is just a few letters off from my maiden.
SS came two weeks ago,....now to change all the accounts. That's going to be a pain!
I did love my maiden name, but I love my married name as well... Luckily my initials didn't change, and I was considering keeping my maiden as my new last name, but my initials would spell a-s-s... So that was a big no-no for me! LOL (YEAH, my best friend told me about the initials! LOL)
I have gotten my name changed officially, and I have received my new SS card... I am still waiting to receive my DL in the mail... And I work at my bank, so everything else is already changed, LOL... I'm waiting on my DL though to change everything else

I haven't changed my name yet... I am seriously slacking! I'm supposed to venture to the SS office tomorrow during lunch because this week at work has been crazy.
I am going to miss my old name, but am really excited about my new one!
my read shelf:
My name is legally changed (new SS card and DL). Now I have to change the bank accounts/credit cards, which I started to do last night. We already opened a joint account with my new last name.
I don't mind giving mine up because I get to keep my maiden name as my 'stage name.' That's kind of a pain too, because I live in two worlds and it's hard practicing with the new one, while still using the old one every day at work. That's why I haven't changed it on facebook. I don't want people to search for me, and find my REAL new last name. This probably makes no sense...

I'm beyond thrilled to get rid of my old last name. I got my new SS card in the mail on Tuesday, so I faxed the paperwork to my company's payroll department to start changing my name over at work on Wednesday, and I've got the day off tomorrow so I'm going to go get my new DL. My name was already changed at my bank (my mom works there so she handled it for me) and I got our new checks and my new debit cards already. Tomorrow after I get my new DL I'll get the stuff faxed over to my credit companies, then just pop in to the local cell phone store to get it changed there. I wish I had gone down to SS sooner, then I'd be done changing everything by now.
The only person with my last name that I get along with is my father's mother...I don't get along with anyone else on my dad's side of the family, and my dad and I had a pretty rocky relationship before he passed away, so I have no emotional ties to my old last name, and in fact wanted to legally change my last name to my mom's maiden name years ago, but didn't feel like paying for it at the time.
It is a huge pain. We got our marriage license back the week after the wedding, but the date was wrong! The minister had written the wrong date, so we finally got the new license this week, a month after the wedding ! I'm just now starting the process. I'm a teacher, so it's been a headache with my students calling me a different name and hearing the new name mispronounced every day is kinda annoying. I'm sure it will all get better with time. :-)
