And the hits just keep coming

I don't know how I pissed Karma off, but we just keep getting in the arse lately!

After both boys having ear infections that won't go away, Jeffery getting the upper respiratory infection over Christmas, and then DH and I getting sinus infections last week, we also heard from MIL that FIL had a mini stroke last week and Jonathan got diagnosed with RSV on Friday.

Thankfully, FIL went to the hospital because he was feeling dizzy, and they found the stroke while there. No long-term effects or real injury other than balance issues, which was great. They did find that his cholesterol and blood pressure were way too high, so he's now on meds and doing physical therapy for the dizziness twice a week. Not sure when/if he'll be going back to work. Things on that front are still kinda up in the air.

As for Jonathan, we go back Thursday to have him checked again. He caught the cold we all had, and she tested him for RSV just as a precaution. We were both shocked it came back positive. He's been on breathing treatments three times a day, so I literally go from one kid-related task to the next every day until 3:30, when their naps happen to coincide. It's crazy around here.

And the latest, yesterday I was stepping over the kid gate in the kitchen and banged my foot on the folded up stroller on the other side, and might have broken a toe. After the initial pain/swelling/bruising subsided, it wasn't all that bad, so I figured I'd just jammed it. However, overnight, it lled even more and the bruising went into the top of my foot, so I'll be going to Solantic this afternoon after DH gets home.

Eventually this has to calm down, right?

Re: And the hits just keep coming

  • Wow...2011 is really giving it to you, huh? I'm sorry you're having such a crappy time lately. So sorry to hear about FIL, but I'm happy to hear that he's going to be ok. It was very smart of him to go to the hospital when he was feeling "off."

So sorry to hear about Johnathan & the RSV too. Our nephew had that when he was about 6 months old and I remember snuggling with him while he got his breathing treatments through the elephant trunk on his little breathing machine. Hugs to both of you. I'm sure it's hard to see him sick.

Ouch on the toe! Hope fully it's just the toe and not the foot. That's one of the injuries that really sucks b/c if it's just the toe, I don't think there's much that can be done. Hopefully it's just a bad bone bruise. Let us know what they say.

Hang in there! You've earned one of these: Drinks

  • Wow. You are having a rough time over there. Glad they caught FIL's stroke easily and quickly and there shouldn't be long term effects. I'm not familiar with RSV but I'm glad the doctor tested him just to be safe and hope he gets better soon. As for your toe, I can tell you from experience that even a really bad toe break with bruising up the whole foot will just result in Solantic sending you to get a boot that insurance will not cover and costs about forty bucks. It will help you walk with less pain but not much. May our may not be worth it to you. Which foot was it?

  • So sorry to hear about FIL, good thing they caught it at the hospital. And so sorry about your son, 2011 hasn't been your year :(

I agree with lucky, my husband is an Athletic Trainer and I've heard him tell many people for broken toes, there's really nothing they'll do unless it's out of place. I'd just RICE it and tough it out with some advil.

  • Thanks ladies!

It's my left 4th toe (by the pinkie), and honestly doesn't hurt all that badly any more unless I mess with it. I think it's mostly just jammed, but DH freaked on me and wanted me to get it x-ray'd because he's worried about long term effects. I told him there's not much they'll do, but he's overly protective like that. He had agreed to see how it did for a few days, but since it's bruised up some more, he wants me to go today.

The worst part is obviously Jonathan. Yes, he has the elephant mask as well, and handles his treatments fairly well. He just gets pissy when he can't chew on the mask, so that's a good thing. It is just so hard to know a perfectly healthy and happy kid can easily catch something that serious. It's a bit scary for me honestly. I never felt that I had to "worry" about my kids' health, but it makes you realize that he's still a baby.
