In a few weeks, we're taking our first trip with baby, and I'm trying to prepare. We're planning to take our lightweight/compact stroller (a Chicco Liteway) and gate check it.
What's the verdict on whether to put the stroller in a bag for gate checking? Do you do this? Seems like an extra step that I'd hope to not have to do, but at the same time, the Chicco Liteway is not a $20 umbrella stroller, so I'd be pretty pissed if it came back to us dirty/damaged/destroyed.
I've seen the cheap $12 red gatecheck storage bags on Amazon, and was just wondering if it's worth the hassle, or if you all have traveled without one without any problems.
Re: Moms: Stroller bags for gate check?
Wow, Belhurst! Good to "see" you. It's been quite a while.
Congratulations on your daughter.
And yeah, that kind of horror story is exactly what I'm afraid of. I didn't want to be the paranoid freak trying to stuff my stroller in a bag at the gate (and have another thing to worry about), but I don't know if it's worth the risk. $120 for a stroller is not chump change.
Do you think you'll go with one of the cheap bags (essentially just keeping the stroller clean and intact), or a padded version?

Good to "see" you too! Nora is beautiful!
I'll go with the cheap red one. I have one of those for the car seat- which I checked with my luggage- and didn't have any problems at all.
I was so annoyed. I almost didn't even bring the thing because she isn't a fan and prefers to be worn, so it was even more annoying. It must have rubbed right up against something sharp because it's torn right where the fabric covers a metal part.
Thank you! Stella is pretty cute herself! Love that little outfit in your pic. (And not to get sidetracked, but I've been looking for a local photog to do family pics in the spring--were you happy with EIEIO?)
And thanks for your input about the bag. I've read some reviews on Amazon that the bag suffers from some wear and tear after a few trips, but $12 isn't bad, and better the bag take the beating than the stroller, right?

I don't doubt that the bag suffers some wear and tear- heck, my luggage looks like crap from the way they toss stuff around!
I am sooo happy with EIEIO. We've used her twice so far and are nothing but thrilled with the results. She's so easy going, too. You can have shots done at her studio or she'll meet you, well, just about anywhere. For Stella's newborn pictures she drove all the way out to our place!
I hear you. We have a Bumbleride Indie (also $$$) as our main stroller and if we ever choose to travel with it, we'll definitely be springing for a nice travel bag for it. We bought the Chicco Liteway as a "cheaper" option for travel specifically, so it's not AS big of a deal if something happens, but still.

Nope. It's just one more thing for you to do and carry.
Not at all worth it IMO.
