Food to go with Cosmos

I'm making dinner for my sister's 30th birthday for her, her husband and our parents this Friday and all she'll tell me is that she wants the cosmopolitans I told her I'd make. I need some feedback on what would pair well with the cosmos. Here are my thoughts but feel free to share others:

Sausage and white sauce pasta

Red pepper risotto (not sure what meat.. maybe chicken)

chicken with 40 cloves of garlic

Chicken Marsala

Thanks for your input!

Re: Food to go with Cosmos

  • I would do a play off the cosmo flavors, an orange glazed chicken with a cranberry risotto, or a cranberry sauce and a lemon risotto.

You could also do an appetizer of a shrimp cocktail, but serve it in a martini glass with cocktail sauce in the glass, and the shrimp hanging

Maybe some cosmo jello shots? and an orange cake or somethign pomegranate

  • Cosmos are a light fruity drink so you do not want to overwhelm their flavor.  Sausage will overwhelm, 40 cloves of garlic will overhelm and Marsala is the wrong liqueur.

Red pepper risotto sounds perfect.   I would skip the meat.

Lemon Chicken works well or a simple roast chicken with a herbal rub.

Shrimp cocktail (as per the PP).

Steamed Halibut with a light fruit salsa

Fettucine Alfredo (light on the garlic) works well.

If you can make a steak without heavy onions, (I can't caramelized onions are a must for steak), that would also work.

  • I agree with both pp about something a little lighter that may play into the flavors.  Just wanted to throw out another option I hadn't seen posted yet... a pork tenderloin.  Its lighter and goes really well with a cranberry glaze.  We made an amazing mustard/rosemary marinated with cranberry glaze pork tenderloin for christmas dinner.  The recipe was on the cooking light website.
  • I don't know that I'd coordinate an entire menu around a cocktail. I guess I don't think of drinking them all through dinner, but maybe that's just me. Have a pitcher ready when guests arrive to have with the appetizers. Another nice twist would be to make cosmo cupcakes for dessert. You could base them off of these: http://jaimecooks.wordpress.com/2010/05/23/margarita-cupcakes/, but replace half of the lime juice for each component with cranberry juice.

Agreed with this.  I like A cosmo, but I don't want to drink or eat one all night.
