Since you know how recruiting and eligibility works, you'll appreciate this.
DH has a prospective student athlete from Europe who wants to play a (non-revenue) sport here in the US. Alabama recruited him pretty heavily (this guy is a former Olympian) and so when he went to take a visit, they took him to the training facilities, showed him around campus, showed him the Heisman (even though he's a European who probably has no idea what the Heisman trophy is, much less means). When he asked to see the classes and meet with the department, they totally hedged and said, "Oh we can do that another time." Never stepped foot in a classroom the entire time in Tuscaloosa.
Well there was an eligibility issue because he's older - in mid-20's - he went straight from high school into the country's military and some other issue I'm not totally clear on regarding that.
Anyway, Alabama did all the eligibility work - forms, files and appeals (DH wasn't sure how to approach this since he hadn't dealt with this particular issue before). The kid takes a visit here to New York and decides immediately that he wants to go to school here. Needless to say, the Alabama coaches are kinda pissed, but what can they do? They kid doesn't want to go to Alabama.
DH is debating on whether to send their compliance department some roses or cookies or something as a thank you for doing all the work for him.
Re: Madelyn, funny 'Bama story
LOL!
Not at all surprised that they wouldn't show him the academic side of things...they don't care about that at all.
Just make sure your DH has someone check everything and all...Bama is shady. What is eligible to them isn't necessary eligible to everyone else
Also...no roses, way too classy...umm...a pack of smokes and a case of PBR would probably be well received ...or a gift card to Wal-Mart...
