I haven't ever gone down to the Social Security office and changed my name on my card. Does this mean I still have my maiden name? If so...hahaha. Oops.
My passport, driver's license, and all legal documents (will/trust, life insurance, retirement accts, etc) all say my last name is my married name.
Have you changed your name on your Social security card?
Re: S/O marriage license.
Yup - I took a little while to change my name on my SS card [I had to do it for my job, since they needed that to verify I had gotten married so they could change my name in the system], but I did it.
I didn't change my last name on my license until last January...I booked our honeymoon tickets under my married last name, and my license was still under my maiden name after having been married for 10 months. Needed the license and plane ticket to match, so changed that. I was really slow about changing everything over. Oops.
Same here.
I did the same so I could change my name at work. Now the bills I had before I got married are still in my maiden last name because I don't want to f*&k with sending them everything and hopefully they will all be paid off in the next 6 months so its not a big deal.
Yup - I did it right after we got back from our honeymoon and had received our official marriage license.
I guess I didn't realize you could change your passport name without having an updated social security card. It seems like I had to send in my ss card to get my passport name changed. God, that was so long ago, I have no idea.
Same here. I think the only thing left with my maiden name is my passport - which is expired, anyway. I should probably renew that sucker. Oh, and all my school stuff - for some reason they can't get it right, so I just leave-it-be.
Ditto this. I changed my license and car registration next, then credit cards and passport. I still have one charge card in my maiden name that I haven't gotten around to changing yet.
I think not having your SS # match your driver's license could be a headache if you wanted to start a new job, or if you tried to open a new bank account or loan. They generally like all your forms of ID to match.
I also think there is a little bit of an issue if your ss card doesn't match the name you file your tax return under. Like, a crime. Just a misdemeanor, though, so don't worry and I doubt it involves any time, just a few hundred hours of community service. And let's face it, we could all spend more time helping out the community.
I kid, I kid.
I think I changed mine shortly after we got married.
This story made me giggle though because my dad booked our honeymoon for us (it was a wedding gift) and he was wise enough to do the flight with my maiden name, but for some reason, the hotel was under my first name with my married last name and my dad's name (why he did it that way I will never know--he said it was something about him booking it that they had it that way). Really not a huge deal, except that H and I locked ourselves out of our room one day and we didn't have any identification with my married last name or my dad's name on it. It was crazy. Eventually they put it all together and let us back into our room though!
