Can we play 'what if' for a minute?

Okay, so lets assume I get this job & I get a BFP.

Would you tell new job right away about the BFP or wait a little bit?

Re: Can we play 'what if' for a minute?

  • I'd wait until I was at least out of the first trimester.

  • I'd wait as long as you can.  Give yourself a chance to prove your value to them before you hit them with the news that you'll need time off.  If you got the job right now and were also pregnant right now, you wouldn't have FMLA coverage, so I'd be focused on making sure that they'd want to keep me around after the baby comes.  That is, of course, unless you plan to SAH after you have a baby.  Then I guess it doesn't really matter.  In any event, I wouldn't tell anyone I didn't know very well about my pregnancy until I was at least 10-12 weeks.
  • Sorry, I should have been more clear.  I learned my lesson from last time & will be waiting until the 2nd tri to tell anyone.

A better question would be then... When is it appropriate to inform your employer?

  • I want to say this discussion came up in the past and someone had mentioned some companies require you to tell them you are expecting within a certain time frame so keep that in mind to.
  • I would wait until you are comfortable enough in your position that you think it is safe. And if you start showing before that time comes, I guess you will be outed! I haven't heard about companies requiring disclosure but that is definitely something to look into. I wonder how you could find that out. Unless it is posted somewhere in the office, it might look obvious. Hmmmm
  • THIS!

  • I'd wait. I'm also looking for a job and TTC so this is something that I have been thinking about too.

On one hand I would feel bad not saying anything, but on the other hand me being pregnant or not should not be a consieration on if I get hired for a job or not so I don't think they need to know.
