Paige&Jeff:
I NEVER would have pegged you for a Top Gear Fan!!!!
Who is your favorite guy? What do you like about it?
Jeff LOVES it and bought every season on DVD but could only find it in the UK format so he then bought that style DVD player too. It was on 24/7 for a while at my house. It took some getting used to but is pretty good.
Now I'm curious what you had me pegged for???
I am a weird weird mix of interests. I like NASCAR and LOVE football. I'm a huge hockey fan. But I watch all of these things while knitting/sewing/crafting. I really want an Aston after watching Top Gear.
I'm actually watching a rerun on BBC America right now.
I really like Hammond, but really they're all great. The specials really pulled me in but I have started to pay attention to the cars too. Steve usually downloads them off the internet and when a new season gets close, there are random shouts of the days, hours, minutes, seconds to the season starting.
When we were in England, they were taping this upcoming season, and we tried to get tickets. Steve was about minutes late responding to an email in order to get them.
Oh, I don't know if you've seen it since you wait for the DVDs, but they had a special that came out right around Christmas (well two actually). They came to the states for one and when they were driving from NC to NY, they stopped at a track in Maryland to attempt a drag race. That race track is literally 2 minutes from my house. If it wouldn't have been wet, I would have heard them. Steve and I freaked out because we recognized the sign and are pissed because we would have gone and seen the taping if we would have known.
Oh, and I recommend reading Hammond's book about his accident. It's very interesting learning about growing up and and his recovery. It also has parts written by his wife...parts of his recovery that he still doesn't remember.

::butting in::
We first heard of this show a few months ago. They were on 60 minutes or something like that and we saw clips of their special in the US. We've been trying to watch it since then. Much prefer this one over the U.S. version. They are just so comical. I'll have to check out that book, I bet it is interesting.

We caught that episode of 60 minutes. We actually found it about a year or so ago on BBC America and then Steve starting downloading them.

This post gets a
from me (and Jeff I'm sure)
Brie I think I just had such a hard time coming around to this show I get surprised that so many people watch it. I hope that didn't offend you!
I don't think I even knew Hammond was in an accident when was that? I will have to tell Jeff about the book.
The UK version is soooo much better than the US one. The guys all have such a great chemistry together. And they truely enjoy what they do and that is awesome!
I love the specials when they do crazy trips. We just watched one where they had only 1 tank of fuel and had to make it so many miles and in a certain amount of time. I was cracking up at Jeremy Clarkson because he tried to waste as much fuel as he could before he reached his house so he didn't have to go farther.
Oh, no offense taken. Apparently I surprise a lot of people including my Dad. I showed it to him and spouted off some stats about a car and his jaw hit thye floor.
Hammond was in a serious accident in a jet car, I want to say in the fall of 2006 (they were filming season 9). They had done all the shots they needed, but decided to go full throttle on one more run. The tire blew mid-run and the jet car flipped multiple times. They said if he was any shorter, he would have been dead and probably decapitated because the roll bar dug in to the ground. He suffered some brain damage and still experiences some effects. They had to delay the season because Clarkson and May were not going back on the air without him.
I also like the UK version better, but they have been doing this a lot longer. If you watch one of the really early seasons, it's a bit awkward too. I do see the US version having potential. Steve and I tried watching the Austrialian show and didn't watch more than 2 episodes. We've been told to try again because it got better.
I just saw that special too. But I think mine is a tie between the north pole race or the one across Africa where Hammond names his car "Oliver". If we ever have kids and have a boy, I might just name him Oliver.

I just realized my looong reply last night never posted.
I didn't realize there was an Australia version of the show. When I told Jeff about this conversation last night he looked at me like I had 2 heads. He thought it was hilarious.
I think its cool that so many of us watch the show.
