Zap & co Fire

I was sad to hear that zap & co, as well as some other shops where effected last night by a fire! I heard on the radio that 12 people where displaced and one injured! I can not imagine what it would be like to lose a home to a fire.My question for you, if all of your loved ones where safely out of danger and you had the time to grab any one item from your home, what would it be? Sorry for aloof posts today, but thought maybe they would be good conversation starters!

Re: Zap & co Fire

  • I'm game!  As long as everyone was out (DH and pets and kiddo when he's here), then I would say my little fire safe.  Even though it's fireproof, it has important papers, some sentimental things that I just wouldn't risk.  In fact, it's in my nightstand for that very reason, easy to grab.
  • I love this today especially since I'm extremely bored today! :) Thanks!

I would probably say the safe as well and also photos!  For some reason, I am addicted to photos!  I have lost so many people lately and looking through those pictures have made it seem a little better. Everything else can be replaced but photos with memories can not be replaced and they last a lifetime.

As for fire, I am terrified of fire. When I was young my neighbors house caught on fire and I woke up to them screaming and her husband running outside NAKED. lol  We had to provide him with sweatpants and a tshirt but I think the horror of waking up to that and watching it, not being able to do anything just really played a toll on me!

  • I've thought of this before and I would have to say a photo of my mom & dad's wedding photo and my great grandfathers drysink.  Although I can't imagine running out the front door with it because its so dang heavy.  But I don't care. I have all of our wedding photos backed up onto a photo hosting site so I'm not too worried about loosing those.  But I have a lot of the important documents in the fire safe too. I'm sure I won't be able to remember all this when I'm running out of the house to escape the fire.

    Married 6/10/09 in Bermuda.
  • I would grab pictures for sure...most of them are backed up on an off-site server (DH is in IT...can you tell??), but there are a few that are irreplaceable, but really I would just be grateful to have DH, myself and our kitty out.  I have thought about this a lot because about 2 years ago the house across the street from us burned down and we woke up in the middle of the night smelling smoke and thinking our own house was on fire.  Then less than a week later my cousin's apartment building burned down (also in the middle of the night) and the only reason she made it out was because her neighbors insisted she was home and the fire fighters axed down her door and she had to be carried out.  At that point all the "irreplaceables" didn't seem as irreplaceable as her.
