MDW to ORD? (Q from a MSP nestie)

Hello Chicago Nesties!

I have a quick question that I'm wondering if you can answer.

In March, I'm going to Ireland with a group of 50 friends.  All the folks from Minneapolis bought RT tix from Chicago to Dublin because they were significantly cheaper than from MSP. We did this we went 2 years ago too and it worked out great. We were able to get RT tix from MSP to ORD for about $130 each.

Right now, RT tix to ORD are still over $200 so I'm looking at other options including flying into Midway.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get from Midway to O'Hare and how long that might take? We could work it out so we have plenty of time. Our flight to Dublin doesn't leave until 7:15pm and none of us are working on that day (Friday) so we could leave anytime.

TIA for your expert advice!

  • I found this on flychicago.com

Coach USA Wisconsin offers hourly service between O?Hare International Airport and Midway Airport from 6:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. for $14.00 for a one-way fare. Pickup at O?Hare at the Bus Shuttle Center and at Midway on the lower level. Allow at least 1 hour travel time between O?Hare International and Midway Airports. They may be reached at 1-800-236-2028 toll free or at 262-542-8861. Go to http://www.coachusa.com/wisconsincoach/ to refer to their web site for exact times or further information.

The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is an economical mode of transportation between O'Hare International and Midway Airport but is also the more time consuming at close to two hours. The CTA Blue Line serves O'Hare (located at the lowest level of the Main Parking Garage, next to elevator center 4, and is accessible by pedestrian tunnels located in Terminals 1, 2, and 3), and the Orange Line serves Midway. Clark and Lake is the free downtown transfer stop between the two lines. For more information, please go to the CTA Website.

I've never tried to go from one to the other, but I would believe that the CTA does take around 2 hours. The CTA fare is $2.25. Have you thought at all about Amtrack from Minneapolis? That may be another option.

    GL, and enjoy Ireland!

  • You could call taxi's- Its probably around $60 or so to go from one airport to the other.

  • Depending on how many of you there will be, I've had friends rent a limo or shuttle from this place. Midway zip code is 60638

  • I'm not too sure why  one would want to  fly  from midway to  ohare.  It's your  flight does  not leave till 7:15pm to  ireland that  means you want to be at  ohare by 5 and what  means that  you  want to  leave mid way by 4 bear in mind that  this  during rush hour. I  day  given your self at  least a hour  between airport.  cab are about 60. if you are all  flying to gether in to  midway, charter  a  airport bus.
  • I am a flight attendant based out of ORD and sometimes when i travel for fun and ORD flights look full i will hop on the train and head to MDW. It takes about 1 hr and 20 minutes to get from ORD to MDW (transferring to Orange Line - MIDWAY at Clark/Lake). It is super easy and economical - $2.25.
