I"m so SAD today. =(

I am so very sad today. We had to give the dog back after just 12 hours!
She's a master escape artist.
She wedged through a 3 inch space in the dog run and figured out how to break out of there in 10 min!
Then later she JUMPED our 8 foot fence.
I was in pieces because I thought we lost her.
I later found her on rossmore blvd. I still can't believe we found her!

Anyway we decided to give her back because we don't have a safe place to keep her since she's escaping from everywhere. I don't know what we'd do with her while we are at work. We didn't want to stress out constantly about it.

Sasha has never once tried to escape and we thought we had a rock solid back yard.   She and sasha bonded and had an amazing time together.  Friday night went so well and we were so happy!

They played for 2 hours, then we went on a 45 min walk, then we played some more.   After that we went into the house and they each got a Kong while watching the movie 8 below together.  Sasha absolutely loves the movie and will watch the whole thing.  Roxy seemed to enjoy it too.

They didn't settle down and go to sleep until after midnight, but then they slept together on the same bed until about 6 am.  We took them outside to play for an hour, and then that's when we decided to try them in the dog run so we could sleep a few more hours.  Roxy figured a way out only after 10 min!  Sasha was still inside, she looked as shocked as we did at her getting out.

I was also suprised that she just decided to up and jump the fence in the middle of playing with sasha.  I would have thought that sasha would have kept her attention.  The fact that she came back to me when she saw me on the sidewalk was a good sign.  Dh and I are wondering if we freaked too early and sent her back to early.  What if she didn't know what she was doing and was bummed that she got lost?   The rescue said she was escaped from 5 other potential homes.   One house she actually figured out how to open an unlocked door and got out of the house!

I just have NO idea what we'd do with her while we are at work.  Apparently she also figured out how to unlatch a crate door so even crates she can get out of.

She was an AWESOME dog though so I'm really bummed. Part of me feels like we didn't give her enough of a chance. The other part of me thinks there's just no way I could be responsible for her getting hit on beverly blvd or rossmore. Also the nala thing was stressful to. She has a prey drive with cats.
Ug! Poor girl. I hope she finds a home.

Re: I"m so SAD today. =(

  • I'm sorry Tonya!  I'm glad you found her though!  How lucky!

I thought of you today because a stray doggy ran in front of my car and I almost hit it.  I got out and tried my hardest to get her to come to me but she wouldn't.  Then a lady came out of her house and told me that the dog had been running the streets the whole weekend and this lady tried to get him to come in her house by giving him a bone and the dog bit her.

So sad.  I hope the dog doesn't get hit. I was wanting to bring her home to play with Willie and call animal control.  She didn't have tags or anything and she was so cute!  :(    I don't want any dog bites though.

  •  I'm so sorry that it didn't work out. I know you were really excited about the new dog. I'm sure that she'll find a good home. Hopefully someone with a great yard that she can't escape from. At least you guys opened up your home to a dog that needed one. You gave it a try. That is way more then most people would do. *hugs*

  • I am sorry it didn't work out for you!
  • I'm so sorry that things turned out the way they did.

My pit/boxer mix was an escape artist when she was younger. She would hop over a 6ft block wall in a single leap. Luckily for us, she would freak out once she got over and whine and cry for us to come and let her back in the yard. She wouldn't just jump back in for some reason. We tried everything and just couldn't break her of it so she just couldn't be outside alone. Then one day my friend accidentally let her out. She tried to jump the wall and caught her leg somehow and fractured her pelvis. It was horrible and took a long time to heal. I guess she learned her lesson though because she has never jumped a fence since. I just wish she could've figured it out without hurting herself.

I hope that Roxy is able to find a home that can secure her. Poor Sasha, I'm sure she'll miss her friend.

  • Oh no!  I'm so sorry it didn't work out.  I hope Roxy can find a great home!  It was wonderfully generous of you and DH to try it out for the weekend.
  • oh no!!

i'm so sorry to hear that, i'm glad she's ok and hopefully she will find a good home! hugs!

  • sorry it did not work out.  *hugs*
  • Sorry to hear it didn't work out. But I also think that you guys made the right decision by bringing her back. Knowing that it might not be safe for her if she stayed since she is a great escape artist is a very good decision.?
We unfortunately had a dog a long time ago (back when I was in college) that we thought was alright at the back yard until one day she was gone only to get a call that she had been hit & we had to put him to sleep. It was a devastating experience. It took me awhile to get over that and get another dog.
