Charleston area help...please.... :)

Hello girls.  I am a WCF knottie looking for some help.  We are going to a wedding in SC in April.  DH and I have never been to SC, so we are a little lost.  The wedding is at Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadmalaw Island.  The hotels the bride has rec are in Charleston, and one on Kiawah Island.  I don't know if this is because there aren't any hotels on Wadmalaw Island. Can anyone give me any information that they have on this area (WI) and/or hotels in the area?  Or are we better off just staying in Charleston?

Re: Charleston area help...please.... :)

  • Kiawah would be the closest.  If you want to go into town, it's about a 35 minute drive.  How much free time will you have?

  • Kiawah is very nice but may be more expensive than Charleston? Depends on what you want to do when you are there. If you are only going to be there for a short time I would say stay on Kiawah, but you can also look into West Ashley. I know there is a Holiday Inn Express on Savannah Highway /Highway 17 that would put you pretty close too and you would be minutes from the interstate and about 10 minutes from Downtown Charleston. If you are going to be here for awhile I would say make it Downtown for dinner or at least a few drinks its really nice especially in April. Go to market street and East Bay there are lots of places for cocktails and dinner. Hope this helped and Hope you have fun!
  • Ah, the Tea Plantation for a wedding...how great!  There are no hotels on Wadmalaw.  Wadmalaw is very rural with lots of farms.

The Sanctuary over on Kiawah is going to cost you.  Depending on the week/end in April (I hope it is not around Easter time), you should consider renting a beach condo/home on Kiawah, Seabrook Island, even at Bohicket Marina.

From Kiawah/Seabrook to Wadmalaw, you're looking at a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic.  It's a two lane tree-lined country road.
