Gray, Maine? or near there?

Hi girls,

I am going on vacation in Aug and we are renting a house on Sebago Lake in Gray Maine. I will have a 20mth old by then. Any ideas of what to do or where to go thats near there? Thanks in advance.

  • I found this, never been, but it might be fun if you like animals. This site is really good for exploring options.

I'm sure others who 1. live in Gray, Portland, or Lewiston and/or 2. have children will be of more help :)

  • We live in Raymond in the summer which the next town over, and the Gray Animal Farm is really cool... and I think in August every year they have a Native American pow-wow...

There is Hodgeman's Frozen Custard place is really good and it is in New  Gloucester....

Sebago Lake State Park is also near there and has a great beach area with lots of sand and a nice lake

everything else I can think of would be in the Portland area, there is not much to do in the Gray area that I know of...

We went there last summer with our (at the time) 1 year old.  It was great!  We'll likely be going there regularly as there are plenty of animals to see but it isn't overwhelming.

  • I grew up on Little Sebago Lake in Gray (is that where you are staying? There is Sebago Lake and Little Sebago Lake - Little Sebago is the one that is in Gray. Sebago Lake is the next town over and is huge).

Definitely check out the Gray Wildlife Park - I loved that as a kid!

I'm not sure what other organized kid friendly activities there are, buy your LO will probably love swimming. There are some places in Windham/Raymond where you can rent a canoe or a boat, which would also be fun. And, you may be able to just walk into the woods and go blueberry picking in August (just make sure to check for ticks after you are done).

Like pp said, there is a bunch of stuff to do in Portland, but it's like a 30-45 minute drive. Totally worth it if you want to see a great city with cobblestone streets and experience some seacoast stuff. You could do a whale watch or take a ferry to an island or just eat some awesome seafood.

I always remember seeing a lot of tourists in Naples, which is about 20-30 minutes from Gray. I'm not sure what there is to do - my mom went parasailing there one time, but they may have boat rides, if you guys aren't renting/bringing a boat.

OH! Also nearby is the Seacoast fun park. I'm not sure if they have stuff for toddlers, though, but it may be worth checking out.

  • I thought of something else. We used to take field trips to Bradbury Mountain State Park. They have some easy hikes if you want to put LO on your back. And they have a play ground. It's about 20-30 minutes from Gray.

I am not sure what there would be there, but a lot of the camp staff go there on their nights out because it is open late!  I think its mostly mini-golf, go-carts and that big swing thing...

  • Oh there is also a train museum or something on 302 that looked interesting but I never got the chance to stop because I was always alone with the twins and not willing to get them out of the car to find out its not worth it and then had to get back in the car! I can try to find out what it is called and let you know!

  • A little past Naples is Deertree Theatre which is has really good kids activities during the week too.
  • depending on when you are visiting we have many county fairs that happen in August- they would be a short drive too.
