OBX recs?

hi ladies,

I've been gone for a bit, things got hectic just before the holidays and are just starting to calm down, (DH lost both of his grandmother's almost a month apart).  But we've been talking about our vacation this year and have decided to go to OBX in May before the season starts.  I know some of you guys had your weddings there, and I'm betting that some of you have vacationed there, so I'm looking for any suggestions you have (I've never been, and DH went fishing there and only remembers the fishing).  Hotel vs renting a condo? restaurants? locations? rental agencies you prefer?  I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks!!!

Re: OBX recs?

  • Do you have a specific area in mind already or still looking at options?  I'm not really a help with the northern beaches (Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Corolla) but can definitely help with the Avon, Hatteras, Ocracoke areas.

If you're planning on going for a week I think a condo or small house would be the way to go.  You'd have a kitchen and could also cook a few meals in.  Breakfast and lunch you could have in also which saves a lot of money. If you're looking at the Southern OBX, I used http://www.hatterasrealty.com/ for the wedding and have no complaints at all with them.  My IL's have used http://www.midgettrealty.com  and loved them.  Also check out these, http://www.dolphin-realty.com/cablayout.cfm.  I've wanted to stay in these but haven't yet, one day though!

It is a very relaxed atmosphere down in the Hatteras area.  Not much to do if you're looking for entertainment like what Ocean City would offer.  There are a few museums, a lot of neat little art galleries, the Cape Hatteras Lighhouse, spending a day in Ocracoke.

  • I went once with a girlfriend of mine when we were in college - they always go to Duck.  I loved it, it was beautiful - but that's as far as my advice goes!  Duck was awesome!
  • Well, I'm partial to Hatteras Island... hence why I got married there.  I can give you TONS of info on Hatteras Island, but nowhere north of there.  So if you want info on Hatteras, frisco, buxton etc, let m know :).

I will say.. Hatteras is less crowded, less touristy.  There is not ALOT there... houses, a few resturaunts, lots of great beaches, fishing etc and total relaxation.

  • I am your source for OBX info.  Feel free to email me so that we can better decide what you all would like to do.  mrybrwn9 at yahoo
