Hubbys 30th birthday - theme ideas?

My hub is turning 30 in like 7 weeks and I really wanted to throw him a little party at our house. I wanted to have a fun theme for people to dress up, have any good ideas? In the past, I have had an 80s party and island theme parties before, so not those..

We live on a golf course and I thought a sports theme would be fun, I could dress like a golfer. But some girls might not want to dress up like a sports fan or player. I saw the white party on RHOBH, so I was thinking black party? Ideas????

Re: Hubbys 30th birthday - theme ideas?

  • Maybe it's my location tingeing my sensitivities, but a "black party" does not seem like the best idea.  Besides, most women default to black dresses anyway when they go out, so it really wouldn't be anything special.

Isn't it true of all costume parties that if people don't want to dress in theme, they just don't?  If you think most of your guests would like the sports theme and it works for your DH, go for it.

A friend just turned 30 and they did a Roaring 20's flapper theme to say goodbye to her 20s.  The costumes were super fun.

  • 2011 is Pac-Man's 30th Birthday. I think a Pac-Man themed party would be a lot of fun. Not sure people would be able to dress up, but decor and food would be fun (especially if you made these: http://www.forevergeek.com/2009/03/pac-man_cupcakes_wtf_or_awesome/). You both could wear yellow and you could wear a pink bow (like Ms. Pac-Man).

30th anniversaries are also traditionally "pearl," so I think a white party would actually work kinda well for a 30th birthday.

This year was also the 30th anniversary of the Sundance Film Festival -- you could do a movie theme.

  • think about your husbands personality and what theme, if any, would be best for him. or is it better not to do a theme at all? some guys might not like it. 7 weeks from now is around St. Patricks. Could it be a St. Patty's theme?
  • My friend had a "Mad Men" party at her work and the outfits people found were really cool.  Plus, there were lots of old fashioned cocktails which made it swanky and fun.

I like the Roaring 20's ideas, too.  But get those invites out ASAP because it would take me a bit of time to round up a flapper dress!

"Black and white" parties I have seen, but not "black" parties!

  • Lol yeah I guess a black party would be kind of depressing!

Thanks for all of the good ideas!  I will ask him what he would dress up as. We are pretty goofy and we like to match and dress up even when its not required ;)

  • Its my bf's 30th too this year and I am planning a Forever Young party, lol.  Basically everything he loved as a kid.. Video games, in-n-out burger truck, candy station, a polaroid guest book and chocolate chip cookies and milk (his fav) for dessert.  Im doing like a walk down memory lane type thing with blown up pictures from childhood, the schools he went to, sports he played and other funny memories.
  • I threw my DH a guys night- they went to a casino, then to a more upscale ribs place to watch a game in a private room. ?I know march madness is coming up...is he into that at all? ?You could make the party about that, and have foods to match.

I myself would LOVE to have a mad men style party.?

  • In college I went to a "Pimp n Ho" party that was Golf Pros and Tennis Hos.. lol.  All the guys wore the funniest golf stuff and the girls wore tennis or golf stuff- basically a country club theme.. Actually we had to change the name to Country Clubbin now that I thionk of it but it was just preppy, golf attire

I saw this last night!  I think I'm going to do it this year for DH's 25th birthday...

MH's birthday is the end of February, and he's half Scottish.  We love murder mystery party's so I'm hosting a St Patrick's Day (yes I realize it's an Irish holiday, but it's the closest I could get to Scottish) themed Murder Mystery Party.

  • I just threw my husband a surprise 35th birthday party and had a Crazy Hat theme - everyone had to wear a hat - and almost everyone came with a hat on! I also bought a bunch of hats to have on hand for people who did not wear one, I gave out prizes for the Most Original Hat, Prettiest Hat, Smallest Hat, Largest Hat and Funniest Hat and I even set up a "photo booth" station that was a huge hit! I just had a bunch of funny props/hats to use. Good luck with whatever theme you choose!
