Name change drama...follow up

OK, so I know I haven't posted much lately and this is really old.  BUUUUT, some of you may remember that I was having all kinds of drama trying to change my name.  I've always been a "middle-namer" and gone by Brooke.  When I got married, I foolishly assumed I could change my first name too!  FAIL!

So, after more than 2 months, getting fingerprinted, background check, court papers filed, and $500 later...I AM FINALLY BROOKE AGAIN!!!  My legal name change went through.  So, now I can finally go back to SS office, DMV, etc and get everything changed again.  I don't even care about that.  I'm soooo happy!  I will NEVER do that again!

  • Oh I remember you bringing that up a while ago. It sucks that you had to go through SO MCUH. but it must be a big relief to know that the worst of it is over.

    Congrats.

  • Yay!  That's wonderful!  I really wish I had had the extra money to be able to change my name the way I wanted to (wanted to change my middle name to my maiden name) but oh well.  I am so happy for you though!

  • I definitely remember this.  I was so irritated that they were making you jump through hoops for this.  I'm so happy to hear it's LEGAL and DONE!

You can't do that where you are? Around here, you can't have both your old middle and your maiden as a middle, but you can drop your middle and add your maiden. Honestly, the more I hear about name changing, the happier I am that I kept my name! :)

Nope.  You can only change your last name the easy way.  If I had the money to pay a lawyer, I could change my middle name.

  • Yeah Tisha. I'm surprised you couldn't do that.  These were pretty much my only options at the SS office after I got married:

    1) <first> <maiden> <married>

    2) <first> <middle> <married>

    3) <first> <middle> <maiden> <married> (which is entirely too long for me)

    So, what are you now?  <first> <middle> <maiden> ?

  • Nope - I am First Middle Married.

I could have done First Middle Maiden Married, but I wanted to just do First MaidenAsMiddle Married.  I've never liked my middle name and wanted to just totally do away with it and treat my maiden name as my middle name.  Oh well.  I'm ok with how it is.

They let me do this at the SS office.  I went from Jennifer Lynn (ex-husband's name) to Jennifer LF (newlastname).

  • Thanks Brooke!

Yes, I'm back.  Been so sick since Christmas!  Had the worst flu EVER!  I'm still not fully recovered.  And of course DH got it right after me, so it's been crazy to say the least.  I'm glad to be back though.
