PSA: Metrocard amounts

Now worth it to get a monthly?  Using a refillable card and the $2.25 base fare? Still confused about how to calculate how much you should put on your card to make use of the totally asinine 7% bonus? Wondering how to deal with the random 73 cents that's left on your card? Frustrated with the ability to add amounts only divisible by 5 cents?

This website helps you calculate how much to put on your card to maximize the idiotic bonus amount and give you exact multiples of the fare base you need.

Re: PSA: Metrocard amounts

  • LOL. Good to know. I may need this as I haven't decided if I will be buying the unlimited metrocard at the new price of $104 when my current card expires.

  • 315bride,

Did you ever do transit check? I think it comes out of pre-tax dollars from your paycheck.

Yup.  I do the other one where you get a debit card with your transit money on it.

  • It is sad that that's necessary, but that's awesome.  Thanks.

And I thought I was getting advanced because I realized recently that you can consolidate two cards into one if you ask the person working at the station nicely (I get my Metrocards mailed to me every month by my employer, so I tended to have one with a $.50 balance and a new one with an $87.73 balance or whatever those stupid numbers are.)
