Mrs DMC

You mentioned in an earlier post that you were on strict bedrest now.  I don't remember seeing why?  Don't mean to be nose-y...... and how long have you been on bedrest?

Re: Mrs DMC

  • I have been seeing it coming for a while but last week is when they said no more work and that I need to take it easy and stay lying down because of my blood pressure. At 22 weeks they put me on one medication that worked until a few weeks ago. At that time they increased my dose and now they added another med because the bp was staying up there.

Even with the two drugs, my bp is borderline so today the doc told me to start taking one of them 3 times a day. He wants to leave some room for it to climb. ::sigh:: I feel like an old fart takin these drugs and they make me spaceyand tired(and severe dry mouth..blech) Now I will have weekly blood work, and NST scans twice a week.

My goal is to get to 36-37 weeks...That's so close!!!

  • How is your cerclage healing. Are you still bedrestin???
  • the procedure went well.  Had my post - op appointment today.  Dr seemed happy with it.  They'll be doing an ultrasound every 2 weeks until 28-30 weeks to measure the length of the cervix.  As long as there is no shortening, my orders are to "take it easy" and not lift anything more than 10 pounds (which has been very hard for my 30 pound son to understand!).  I was on bedrest for Thursday and Friday only, then on Saturday and Sunday, I was allowed to get up and walk around, but not for long periods of time (as in shopping trips, etc).

I went to work today and didn't have any problems, but I am teaching from a sitting position, and only stand for about 5 minutes each class period.  I only have one planning period so that definitely limits my "walks across campus" to the front office to once per day (if that).  The doctor is okay with that for now.

Did the high blood pressure have you feeling "weird" at all - before the medication?  When I was admitted to the hospital (with son #1), my bp shot up to 190 something to 200 / 150 to 160.  I never felt any effects from it.  Until they put me on an anti seizure medication that made me feel like total crap!  They told me that it would make me feel like I had the flu - and it did.  It totally affected my recovery time in the hospital and the "bonding" time with the baby.  I hated it.  I hope that's not the med they put you on!

Definitely try to take it easy.  I know it's hard!  (I was in bed almost 12 weeks with pg #1) - thank God for laptop computers and the internet, cable tv, and books/magazines!!!!

  • Glad to hear you are healing well. It is nice to have those frequent u/s's....I can never see that too much ya know!

I think the highest bp I have had that I know of is about 200/120ish...eeks. That was at about 30 weeks I think. I have had bp issues for about 5 years and I can tell sometimes that it is high. I feel pressure in my head, and flushed.

The drug you are talking about is Magnesium I believe. I am hoping I don't get to that point because I have heard it is like being high and all gorked out. That would stink to miss out on that first day or so because of a medication. Aside from eclampsia, I need to watch for placenta abruptio, and stoke signs. Eww...it's all pretty scary and I am hoping I can hold off long enough, but not too long to avoid any of that.

All along I have figured I will have a December baby(EDD is 12/1) and now I am trying to get used to the idea of a November baby...wow....it is happening so fast.

  • *****butting in******

Hey!  I had no idea you were on bed rest.  Last we talked you were on light duty for obvious reasons.  Im so sorry you are going thru this.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prays he hangs in there to bake a little longer.
