Anyone or their DH into martial arts?

DH is thinking of trying it out. He really needs a hobby that does not involve video games or sitting on the couch. (His thought, not mine, exactly)

What do you look for in a studio? How do you figure out which type you want to study? Any recommendations?

Re: Anyone or their DH into martial arts?

  • Hey Aimee! DH & I did martial arts for about 2 years, i would have my black belt and probably going for my second degree right about now if we didn't quit.  I loved it and if it wasn't a $$ issue I would still do it in a heart beat! We went to Premier Martial Arts which is a mixed martial and includes kickboxing.  We went to a dojo in east hartford but they are opening up a lot of schools in the area here is the link http://www.pmaschools.com/index.cfm?page=211&state=CT

that is for the schools in CT.  I loved karate and have only since found a since of inner peace and calm while doing yoga.  I recommend it for everyone.  If your interested I suggest you do it together, it was a great way to relieve stress and tension between Eric and I. We laugh and called it our couples therpy but really it helps, one it gives us something we do together, we would work together on drills and advance together and 2 were else can you go twice a week and beat the crap out of your spouse and not get in trouble?! Big Smile

  • Hey! I knew you did it, but I am not part of the other board, so I didn't know if you came back here or not. Granted, you posted this uhhh, 2 weeks ago, so you might not see this. Stick out tongue

He's actually just about done iwth the first session. He decided on a jiu-jitsu/grappling based class. I think he might keep going for more classes. He likes the bruises and sore muscles. Silly man!
