40th wedding anniversary gift

We have some very close friends who are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this weekend.  They are like our CA "parents" since our families are back in MA.  Me & DH are stumped on what to get them.  They are the type of people who have everything and buy whatever they want/need.  They don't really have any mutual hobbies together.  It would be nice to get a gift for both of them...ya know?

Any ideas would be great!  We don't want to spend a ton on them since I'm a grad student/not working, but want to get something that they will like/enjoy.  For 40th wedding anniversaries, Google said rubies-that's probably not gonna work.  Thanks a mil!

  • Something experiential? A gift card to dinner? Tickets to a museum? A dinner cruise?
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • Wow! 40 years is awesome! My parents just celebrated their 40th back in December. Get them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. H and I did that with my parents for Christmas because we don't have a lot of money and they loved it.

I like this line of thought. Something fun that they could do together would be my choice.

  • J and I gave my mom a gift certificate for dinner and two movie tickets for her birthday so she and my Dad could go on a date. Ever since then, they make it a ritual to do once a month. They love it.
