Ive been thinking about having a cutest baby contest.  I want to get my name out there and think i could do a lot of advertising for this, etc. and get a lot of people checking out my website..

 Here is what i was thinking- 

Have maybe 2-3 age groups, maybe newborn-2, and then 3-5? I could send out postcards, put up fliers, etcs.

$25.00 to enter which would include the entrance fee and 1 posed picture either inside or out or $50.00 to enter and a full photo session.  I would post pictures on my website according to the age groups and people can have their friends/family vote for a period of time and then the winner will win something.. haha maybe some free photosessions or something?

opinions? ideas on the prizes? how long to have the contest for?

I think it sounds like a lot of work on your part, but it also sounds like great exposure.  If you think you have the time/energy go for it!  Maybe put a cap on the number of entries if you're worried about to getting too overwhelming.  And I think a free full session is a great prize!

Is it typical to pay to enter a cutest baby contest? Other than that, paying to enter makes me think that a potential customer would say no.

around here i dont feel that its really weird to have people pay plus they are getting a photo for it.  Our local paper is actually running a cutest baby contest now and its 22$ and you dont get anything for it..

I think that's a good idea, and would be great exposure for you.  If you think you'll have a lot of entries, I would do a separate category for newborns - maybe newborn-12mos, 1-2, and 3-5.

It's a great idea for more exposure!  Since your local paper is already advertising a similar contest that includes an entrance fee, I think you will be more than fine.  I've never even looked at those contests besides voting for people's kids so I had no idea that there were entrance fees involved.

I think its a great idea! I started something similar on monday (without the fee) on fb and for the kids so far I have 5.  And I'm also doing a couples one for valentines and I've had 3 coulples ask...we'll see how that one goes...
