Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

old computers
We are moving and I have 2 old laptops that I want to get rid of.
They don't work well (but the do work) so I can't erase the hard drives.
Any ideas what to do with them?

Best Buy
You give Best Buy 10 dollars and the old computer, they give you a 10 dollar gift card to Best Buy.
It doesn't matter how old the computer is or what brand it is. But they will recycle it and it will be properly disposed of.
Check it out on Best Buys website and typing in recycle into the search bar.Even better, in some states it's completely free! They don't charge you at all in MD.
If they work, then you can and should erase the hard drive.
I would never in a million years donate/recycle a computer without erasing the hard drive. Is it really possible you have nothing of a sensitive/personal nature on them?
