Pay Attention to # of Posts and Points?

Since it's slow on here today, and I'm on lunch and have nothing better to do...

Do you pay attention to the # of posts someone has or how many points they have? I've been active on the Knot and the Nest for at least 2 years now, but I feel like a newbie because I've posted less than 200 times. How do you people who have posted so much more do it?

And what do the points even mean?

Re: Pay Attention to # of Posts and Points?

  • If someone comes around posting that smells vendorish, has 5 total posts, and created their screen name 2 days ago I always assume it's just a name made up to try and sell something and I report their butt.  Otherwise I don't pay attention.  It's silly.  I cringe at the "help me make silver!!!!" posts.  Lame.

  • Mine was embarrassingly high before I got banned.

I only look at people's post counts when they say something that makes me think they are new.

I'm pretty sure the point system is some kind of social experiment and has nothing to do with anything.

  • I don't think anyone knows what the points mean.

Posting consistently gets your post count up there.  I have a hard time understanding how some people get 10,000+ posts, but I guess if you are on here long enough on a daily basis you get there eventually.

I, too, cringe at the help me make bronze/silver posts.

I occasionally look at someone's post count if they posted something unusual or the like.

  • I got engaged in 2002 and joined the knot.  NEVER in a million years thought I'd get on a message board, let alone stay until 2010.  :o

That said, it's dramatically helped me with wedding planning, the whole getting pregnant thing, and having babies.  I still am FB friends with nesties I met years ago and we're watching our kids grow up virtually.  I am ALSO friends with nesties in real life, we met weekly for two years until life got busier and we started having our 2nd kids.

I'm not sure how many posts I have, no idea what points mean, but some freaks like us just assume the bump will become something else, like... the hump when we hit middle age, then the slump when we hit old age ;-)

  • I never look at points. I check number of posts if they seem vendorish.
  • Like other I never really look at the points but I to look at the post # if they post something vendorish or just something really dumb over on the bump. I have a high post total only because of the bump I post a lot over there at night or at naptime (AKA Mommy happy time)

  • I guess the only time I really do look at # of posts is when I'm trying to figure out if it's MUD or if someone sounds like they've been around for awhile.

I just hope no one is judging me based on my low # of posts.
