I am interested in getting our milk from several local farms in our area. They all have raw milk, and I have never had raw milk before. Does raw milk taste significantly different than pasteurized milk?
Re: Raw Milk Drinkers
My only real concern was the taste. I'll give it a go, thanks!
Depends what the cow has been eating.
My childhood raw milk was a single-cow (out back in our barn) operation. Her diet influenced the taste, occasionally in a not good way. Stinkweed leads to stinkmilk.
This was my concern when I ventured into drinking raw milk a few months ago. But to my surprise, it tastes much better than pasteurized! My husband swears that store-bought milk tastes "rotten" in comparison. I think it's just the freshness factor that raw milk has.
Ours also tastes much more creamy because it comes from Jersey cows (high milk-fat content) and it's not homogenized. We have to scoop off a thick layer of cream from the top, and then shake up the rest of the bottle each time we use it. It still tastes extra delicious because of all that cream, even after you skim it.
