Book suggestions?

So this whole Monsanto mess is giving me a good kick in the butt to get my own garden going.  I am very new at this, so I was curious if any of you had any suggestions for books or resources to look into to get me started.

Gardening books really overwhelm me. I hate following instructions! I plant stuff, and if it grows, it grows! Planting heirlooms right for your area helps, and going to local nurseries that will give you a few tips.

We're going to be house hunting this summer and hopefully moved in somewhere by this fall.  I'm a little bit of an OCD planner.    So I want to start researching now, because I know some things you can plant bulbs in the fall, so I want to be prepared!  (Wow, I sound like my mother....yikes.)

Same here. I got our plants at the nursery and then just planted them and hoped for the best. Everything turned out awesome.
