You know what I didn't need this week?

To lose power at our house.  Seriously, we jumped straight from Rotavirus to Strep Throat in our house and then "Bam!"- it snows 6 inches of heavy snow and knocks the power out last night.  My mom is home with DD and our power still hasn't been restored.  According to the power company, they estimate that our power will be restored by 11 pm on Sunday!  Exactly what sick people need when they're trying to recover- a dark, cold house.  We may be sleeping 3 adults and 2 kids in a hotel room tonight.  It will be dark by the time I get home.  I'm so happy my momma flew up here Monday after hearing how sick we've been.

  • ((Hugs))

    I am sorry.

I think you should get a hotel room.  And then order in something delicious.  You deserve after such a rough time.

  • That really stinks. I hope they are able to fix the power sooner than Sunday.
  • Yuck. We got about a foot of snow, but no power loss. I'd go to a hotel too.

  • That really sucks.  How is your mom doing?

She's ok.  I think she's regretting coming to visit us with everything that's happened.  Stick out tongue

Every time I see her it's tough b/c I can see how her memory loss is getting worse.  I try to focus on the time I have with her and enjoy the wonderful memories we've had and making some new ones when we can.  Thanks for asking.

  • Are you still out of power?  That suuuuucks.  Are hotels very expensive in your area?  I enjoy the heat way much to stay in a cold house if I could afford not to.

I remember living in NY during the ice storm (97 I think?).   We lost power for 8 days which was nothing compared to homes in Canada and some other parts of NY.  It wasn't bad for me because I was a college student and camped out with lots of friends, sleeping bags and dogs for body heat.  But my mom had to be physically evacuated from her house by the firemen to a shelter because she wouldn't leave on her own.  She's older and very stubborn (and her precious 50 lb cocker spaniel who they let her take).  Then the pipes froze and that's a whole other problem.

It's great that you have your mom with you right now.  We get old fast.  I'm sure she wouldn't rather be anywhere else than with family.

  • Sara, I don't think I could survive 8 days without power in winter.  You are a strong woman!  My mom is regretting her visit b/c she would otherwise be nice and warm in Florida.  We actually stayed at the house of my sister's business partner last night.  It was a little awkward, but at least we were warm!  I really really really want the power to come back on today though!
