Essure, anyone?

I want permanent birth control after this baby is born due to the fact that my body sucks at carrying/growing children.

I was going to do the old fashion tubal, but I had a severe reaction to general when I had my appendix out.  I'm not sure I will want to go under right after I have the baby, but I'm also not sure that at 6 weeks postpartum, I will want to go through something extensive again, either.

My OB does not do essure, so I will have to find another one in the area who does.

I know it takes 3 months to check and see if it's effective, i'm not sure how comfortable I am just relying on condoms for that time frame, but it would take a month for bcp to get in my system.  So we might as well just make it work.  We were using condoms last time though, and I know how that ended up.

I'm wondering if it's a global claim, because I have great insurance now, (and will at 6 weeks pp) but for the 3 month check I will have Dh's insurance, since i'm not going back FT and i'm not sure if they would cover it or not.  If it's a global claim, I think it should go by the original date of service, and anything else is considered a follow up under the initial date, but i'm not sure.

Anyways, just looking for a personal experience, thanks.

Re: Essure, anyone?

  • See if you can search the board. We've talked about it a few times, but I don't know if anyone has done it.

  • I had Essure done 3 years ago and the follow up was billed at the same time they billed the surgery (i'm not sure if that's what you mean by being billed globally).  I had to have my doc office check on this because we lost our insurance 2 months after I had the procedure.

You may want to find and talk to a doctor who does Essure before deciding though because my Dr did put you under general anesthesia to pt the Essure in place, but I know that differs from Dr to Dr
