Cloth Pad Users

I started using the Diva cup a few months ago (love it!) and I love the fact that I'm no longer buying a box of tampons every month.  Now I'm ready to get rid of the pad/liner and try cloth.  Baby steps for me, I guess...

Where do you get yours from?  There are so many options on Etsy and on the web in general - too overwhelming!!  How many did you buy?  Any other suggestions are most welcome!

TIA!

Re: Cloth Pad Users

  • I had some flannel ones once and I will tell you don't buy ones that are just cotton. I mean, they were okay as a panty liner, but bulky for that purpose. I'd look for something with better fabric - bamboo, hemp, or zorb.

  • I have "Party in my Pants".  (You can just google them and their website should come up).  I have 7 of them, which is okay for back up during my period while using the diva cup.  It would be nice to have about 10 or so.  I think that company has starter packages you can buy.  I'd recommend flannel, not plain cotton.  Its just not as comfy.
  • Mine were flannel.

They sucked. I mean... flannel just gets wet. That's kind of gross on my crotch.

  • I'm kinda new to this topic, but is there a particular reason that tampons are bad? I mean, besides the fact that you're throwing away a chunk of various materials every few hours. I'm just wondering because pads are super uncomfortable to me (even cloth ones, they feel like diapers and I despise that feeling), and the cup is not practical for me because I've found that it's messy, especially when I have a heavy period (no matter what I do, it tends to spill, sigh). Not to mention the restroom I use most often is the one at work, and I can't come walking out of the stall with blood all over my hands, lol! Any other suggestions?

Have you actually tried a cup? I guess I don't have a super-heavy flow, but many women do and love them. You don't empty it often at work, and you don't douse your hands in blood. I think you've got the wrong idea - a cup is really no more involved than an OB tampon.

I only ever had to empty mine at home, about every 12 hours.

  • Yeah, I have, and maybe i'm just stupid and can't take it out right, but it ALWAYS spills all over when I take it out. I also work 12 hour days at work, with an hour each way commute, so at some point I do need to take it out and wash it and usually that's when i'm at work.
