Cookie Exchange

I had a Christmas cookie exchange planned for the week before Christmas, but had to cancel due to a family emergency.  A lot of the people I invited have asked me about hosting another one in the up-coming months because they were very excited about it.  I'm really not sure when to have it though.  Obviously Valentine's Day is out b/c there's not nearly enough time to get it together.  I was thinking Easter, but Easter just doesn't say "cookies!" to me the same way that Christmas does.  I was thinking about maybe a Cookie/Candy Exchange for Easter.  Thoughts??

Re: Cookie Exchange

  • St. Patty's Day?  I'm not generally a fan, but it lends itself well to cookies.  Tell people to go easy on the food coloring so you don't become a bottle of FD&C yourselves! lol
  • I hosted my first cookie exchange at the beginning of December, and as it was winding down, everybody said they'd love to do it again soon.    We thought of Easter, too -- so we're probably going to do ours around Easter.   Especially since we're teachers and our spring break is hooked on to Easter weekend, we will have more free time to make cookies!

I made cookie-mix-in-a-jar as a favor for everybody with red and green M&Ms, so for the Easter one, I'll have to think of another favor!

  • I love the cookie-mix-in-jar idea!  My mom just got me a cookbook for Christmas that's only on cookies and there's a whole section with recipes for cookie mixes.  I'm sure I could easily tweek it for an Easter theme.  Thanks and GL with your exchange!  I thought I would include candy too b/c a lot of people make chocolate, PB, and coconut eggs for Easter... so no need to reinvent the wheel... they could just bring those.
  • If you called everyone or emailed today to save the date, you could still pull off a Valentine's exchange.  All you need to serve is wine and perhaps an appetier or 2 from Costco.  Make it a chocolate exchange so people can ring candy, truffles, arownies, cupcakes, cookies, etc.

If you put it together quickly, it could turn out really easy.

  • I think any time is a good time for cookies Smile

If it feels unnatural to theme it around a holiday, then don't. You could do a "Sweets for Spring" party and hold it any time between March and May. Decor could be lots of flowers and pastels.

I love this idea!  Thanks :)
